Even dedicated fans of the Scream franchise will likely find Scream 7 a solid entry, surpassing both the 2022 Scream and Scream VI, which felt somewhat disconnected. It seems to be aiming for a grand finale, returning to the style of the original film with a more focused slasher approach. However, it feels less like a continuation and more like a shift in direction after the previous two films introduced new characters. While any Scream movie is enjoyable, especially with the mystery of who’s behind the Ghostface mask, another upcoming release is generating even more buzz.
That movie is Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, directed by Matt Bettinelli Olpin and Tyler Gillettāknown as Radio Silenceāwho also directed Scream and Scream VI. They originally got the Scream job because their first Ready or Not was so successful, so this sequel feels like a fitting next step for these talented filmmakers.
Hereās Why Ready or Not 2 Looks Like a Thoroughly Exciting Sequel

As a horror fan, I’ve been thinking about the differences between Ready or Not 2 and Scream 7, and it really comes down to motivation. Scream 7 feels like it only exists because the franchise is a money-maker, while Ready or Not 2 genuinely earned its sequel ā the script was strong enough to build on the clever, original story we loved in the first film. It’s that creative spark that really sets the second Ready or Not apart.
This movie feels like exactly what the next Scream installment is aiming for ā though it remains to be seen how the planned appearances of past characters will work out. Itās a satisfying conclusion, not necessarily to the Scream series itself, but to the work directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have done so far. They first gained attention with Ready or Not, then successfully took on franchise filmmaking with the last two Scream movies. Abigail brought them together with Kevin Durand and Kathryn Newton, who are also set to appear in the Ready or Not sequel.
This film is a great career move for the consistently impressive Samara Weaving. With Ready or Not 2, sheās now officially the star of her own film series. While she played the villain in The Babysitter and only made a brief appearance in the sequel, this marks her debut as an executive producer ā another exciting development in her career.
