Do you remember R-Type Tactics for the PSP? It was a unique take on the classic R-Type series, changing the fast-paced shooting gameplay into a strategy game.
The first game launched globally, but its successor was only ever available in Japan.
This PS5 collection brings together both R-Type Tactics I and R-Type Tactics II Cosmos in one package, with improvements and new content. It will be released on June 18th.
Here’s how the press release introduces the experience:
R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos reimagines the classic R-Type universe with a unique turn-based strategy game. Players command forces in various campaigns, choosing to fight as either the Space Corps or the Bydo. Featuring hundreds of ships and levels from both games, branching missions, and a new story after the main campaign, this game offers a huge amount of content for fans and newcomers alike.
This game features a completely new set of missions that continue the story after the events of Tactics II, providing a substantial amount of gameplay content.
We really enjoyed the original R-Type Tactics – it offered a fresh and unusual take on a classic game style. We’re curious to see if it still feels special almost 20 years later.
You can download the game from the PS Store. If you’d prefer a physical copy, a Limited Edition is available for pre-order through the NIS America Online Store.
The special edition includes the game on Blu-ray, plus a two-disc soundtrack, art cards, and two acrylic stands, all packaged in a collector’s box.
