Previously serving as the head writer for Doctor Who, Steven Moffat, shared his thoughts on the surprising regeneration that unfolded during The Reality War, a development that brought back Billie Piper, who had been absent from the show for many years.
In the concluding moments of the episode, Ncuti Gatwa’s portrayal of the Fifteenth Doctor underwent a significant transformation, which brought back the role of Rose Tyler, as played by the original actress. This signified a spectacular return for her character.
Interestingly, however, Piper’s name was not listed as “The Doctor” in the credits, a practice that’s typically followed when a new actor takes on the role of the time traveler. This decision led to some uncertainty about whether Piper will portray the Sixteenth Doctor or another character altogether.
“They’ve not said [she’s the Doctor] so I don’t know. I don’t even know if they know!”
Indisputably, he shares our situation! And when it comes to understanding what makes an exceptional Doctor, Moffat stands out among his fellow showrunners.

When inquired about the qualities the potential Sixteenth Doctor might possess, whether it’s Piper or another individual, he described them as: “A bit attractive yet strangely unusual. There’s an eerie sense of benevolence mixed with gentle, slightly bumbling humanity. The Doctor has always been a bit off-kilter.
Moffat noted: “They are making an effort, but they aren’t quite hitting the mark yet. It seems there’s something not quite right about them. They might say, ‘I’m really trendy because I have a bow tie.’ Or, ‘I look smart with this suit.’ Or even, ‘I wore my sneakers today.’ However, they give off an odd vibe.
The person in question is someone children would eagerly rush towards, wanting to hold their hand, feeling entirely secure. This individual embodies the essence of a doctor. Somewhere along the lines, they possess characteristics reminiscent of both Indiana Jones’ adventurous spirit and Willy Wonka’s charm.

I remarked, “Indeed, it requires a unique individual; one who possesses an intriguing balance of danger and finesse – the riskiest character in the cosmos. It’s quite a daunting task to find such a person.
Piper recently shared details about her rejoining Doctor Who at Florida SuperCon, stating: “This is quite tricky to discuss. I need to be careful with my responses. All I can reveal is that I was contacted unexpectedly, and unfortunately, I can’t disclose the role, but filming it was deeply emotional for me, and I believe it marks a powerful conclusion.
I must admit, I was deeply touched by the process of creating this project, as it carried an exhilarating air of secrecy reminiscent of a spy thriller. Naturally, discussing anything related to Doctor Who often requires me to spin tales, given its unique and enigmatic nature.
