Former Superman Brandon Routh Praises James Gunn’s DCU Reboot & David Corenswet

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve recently heard high praises for the James Gunn-led Superman reboot, featuring David Corenswet. It seems even a previous Man of Steel has expressed admiration for the project!

Back in 2006, I stepped into the iconic cape and boots once worn by Christopher Reeve, taking on the roles of both Clark Kent and Superman in “Superman Returns.” It was an honor to pay tribute to Reeve’s legendary quadrilogy with this film. Critics appreciated my portrayal as the Boy Scout of Steel in “Superman Returns,” but unfortunately, the box office results didn’t meet Warner Bros.’ expectations. As a result, they decided to scrap plans for a sequel and instead opted for a reboot, effectively ending my tenure as Superman prematurely.

What did Brandon Routh say about the new Superman movie?

Discussing his latest film, Ick, Routh expressed appreciation for director Gunn’s Superman movie, describing it as “really enjoyable” and “a blast.” He further praised actor David Corenswet, saying he was “outstanding,” and shared that the movie made him shed tears no fewer than three times.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I approach Superman from a unique angle due to my past experiences with the franchise. Peering into this iconic character’s world feels like stepping into uncharted territory for me. The intricate dance between Lois and Clark in their initial conversation captivated me, setting the stage for an emotional rollercoaster ride.

The familial aspects of the story resonate profoundly with me. With such a vast film, there’s so much to absorb that I find myself eager to revisit it.

As a die-hard fan, I’d say that Superman marked the initial chapter and the genuine birth of the DC Universe, which ignited back in December with the mature animated series Creature Commandos. Coming up next within this interconnected universe are Peacemaker Season 2 and Lanterns, alongside Supergirl’s spinoff, featuring Milly Alcock. Not to forget, an R-rated horror flick focusing on Batman’s nemesis Clayface is gearing up for production later in the year.

Routh finds himself “thrilled” at the diverse possibilities for the DC Universe, given its current array of offerings. He points out that the film’s impressive start, with Superman surpassing the box office earnings of Superman Returns after merely two weeks in cinemas, bodes well for everyone eager to see more from DC. There are numerous compelling characters and stories yet to be delved into.

Currently, you can catch Superman on screens globally in cinemas. On the other hand, Ick is set to have a brief showing in theaters on July 24, 2025, with a broader release scheduled for July 27, 2025.
