Forza Horizon 6 finally gives fans what they want — could this be the best open-world racing game of all time?

Forza Horizon 6 is officially happening! While many of us expected it, and I previously reported on the rumors, it’s still exciting to confirm – Xbox revealed the game at the Tokyo Game Show.

Right now, we only have a brief trailer to satisfy our excitement for the new Forza Horizon. However, it does confirm that fans are finally getting the location they’ve been asking for since the very first game came out in 2012.

Forza Horizon 6 takes place in Japan, and it has everything needed to potentially be the greatest open-world racing game ever made. But let’s not get carried away just yet-here’s a look at what I’m hoping for, and all the confirmed details about the game.

I can’t help but get excited over a teaser

You can watch the short teaser trailer for Tokyo Game Show 2025 above. It mainly showcases the history of the Forza series, taking viewers on a journey from locations like Colorado and Europe to Australia, the UK, Mexico, and the newest setting for the game.

The camera then dramatically pans upward, revealing a stunning view of a famous landmark. It’s not Mount Everest, though – it’s Mount Fuji in Japan!

Honestly, that’s not much information, but it’s enough to get me excited about Forza Horizon 6! The game is heading to Japan and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Xbox Play Anywhere and Steam), Xbox Cloud Gaming, and through Xbox Game Pass in 2026. We’ll start hearing more details about it early next year.

As a huge fan of the Horizon series, I’ve always been impressed by how much care Playground puts into recreating real-world locations and then turning them into the perfect setting for the Horizon Festival. They really nail the details!

I haven’t even spotted any cars yet, which means I can’t start compiling my list for the next Forza Horizon game. But I’m still really excited! That’s because Playground Games is known for meticulously recreating real-world places in their fictional Horizon Festival, and fans have been asking for a Japan setting for years.

Japan offers more than just beautiful countryside and vibrant cities steeped in history. Its incredible automotive heritage could make Forza Horizon 6 a truly unique experience, unlike any previous game in the series.

As an analyst, I’m particularly excited about the recent interview with the Art Director and Cultural Consultant for Forza Horizon 6, published on News.Xbox.com. It’s a great first look into the game’s development, and frankly, it’s got me eager to see what else they reveal.

I have big hopes for Forza Horizon 6

I’m a big fan of Forza Horizon 5, though I haven’t had much time to play it recently. I’m excited about the next Forza Horizon game, and even though it’s still a ways off, I’ve already started thinking about what I’d like to see in it.

The fact that Playground is working with Turn 10 Studios, the team behind Forza Motorsport, is a great sign. It suggests that the next installment, FH6, will be the most expansive and impressive game in the series yet.

  • Improved driving & world physics. This one is basically a given, thanks to the new ForzaTech engine that Forza Horizon 6 will undoubtedly be built on, but I still want to see proper upgrades to the driving physics and depth of environmental details.
  • Deeper car customization. If Forza Horizon 6 is really going to embrace Japanese car culture, more options to customize our vehicles is a must. The Forza Horizon series’ car customization has been a little lackluster for years now, so this is Playground’s chance to completely change things up and give us more ways to flex our style.
  • A different live service model. One of the reasons I stopped playing Forza Horizon 5 as much is how it felt like I was logging in every week just to complete a checklist and leave again. The weekly Festival Playlist had a tendency to become monotonous and repetitive, and FH5’s monthly updates often failed to bring any meaningful changes or new content beyond a handful of new vehicles. I’d like to see Playground get more creative here, even if it means updates take a little longer to arrive.
  • Three DLC expansions. I know I’m jumping way ahead of myself here, since we know nothing about FH6 and whether it’ll get expansions at all, but previous Forza Horizon games have gotten two expansions and then nothing but cars and free updates after. It has never felt like quite enough, and I’d like to see Forza Horizon 6 push the bar even higher with a third beefy expansion after launch.

I’m holding off on commenting about the game’s campaign, online features, how players will improve, and the cars included until I see what the developers at Playground Games have created. This game looks huge, and I expect to be following the news and updates from Playground and Xbox closely over the next few months as they reveal more details before launch.

Here’s everything we know so far

I’m so excited for Forza Horizon 6! You can now add it to your wishlist on Xbox.com or Steam, but it’s way too early to talk about how much it’ll cost or when pre-orders will open. We should find out about pricing, pre-order bonuses, and any DLC plans later in 2026, and I’ll be keeping an eye out!

What do we know about Forza Horizon 6’s world?

Forza Horizon 6 will take place in Japan, offering a diverse landscape that combines cityscapes and countryside, including iconic locations like Mount Fuji and Tokyo. More details on how Japan and its car culture will be featured in the game will be revealed in 2026.

Can I still play Forza Horizon 5?
