With the triumph of Superman, the DC Universe franchise is kicking things off strongly, generating anticipation for what lies ahead. As fans eagerly wait for updates from James Gunn and his team, some suspect that social media may offer hints about DC Studios’ future plans. Lately, official accounts for characters such as Harley Quinn, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern have been revamped with fresh visual content. The recent modifications to these particular profiles have ignited speculation that these characters could be poised to take center stage as the DC Universe progresses.
A quick look at the comment sections on these profiles reveals fans are linking DCU events, suggesting that the profile updates align with news about the future of the shared movie universe. Some fans also use this platform to advocate for their preferred cast choices, like Alan Ritchson as Batman.
Currently, a direct sequel to Superman isn’t being planned, but there are numerous exciting DC Universe projects in the pipeline for fans to anticipate! On the big screen, we have the upcoming releases of Supergirl (recently unveiled with its first poster) and Clayface. For television enthusiasts, the series Lanterns is approaching. This series will offer a style reminiscent of True Detective, focusing on a superhero narrative featuring John Stewart and Hal Jordan together.
As of now, no DCU titles have been planned beyond 2026. However, Director Gunn has verified that scripts for both Batman and Wonder Woman movies are being penned at present. He won’t initiate work on either project until he is satisfied with the script’s completion. Despite his calls for patience, it seems that the development of Wonder Woman is gaining momentum in response to the impressive box office performance of Superman.
As a follower of the DC universe, it’s hard not to notice the recent updates to their social media profiles featuring Green Lantern Corps, Batman, and Wonder Woman. With new films in development for all three, it seems like more than just a coincidence that these key figures are being highlighted. However, there’s been little news about Harley Quinn, whose profile has also received an update recently. This could potentially suggest that there may be plans to introduce her to the DC universe again. If that’s the case, I’m excited to see who they might choose to play her. Given Margot Robbie’s fantastic portrayal of Harley in the DC Extended Universe and her previous collaboration with James Gunn on The Suicide Squad, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were to work together again.
As a dedicated fan, I can understand the anticipation for upcoming projects featuring these iconic characters from DCU. However, let’s face it, we’re still a bit far from seeing Lanterns light up the silver screen (with a tentative release window in 2026). And as for Batman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn, there’s no script written yet, so their stories might not unfold until at least 2027. Given this timeline, it seems premature to revamp social media profiles exclusively for DCU updates. It’s also worth noting that this year’s San Diego Comic-Con may not provide much insight into the future of DC Studios, as they are primarily focusing on promoting Peacemaker Season 2 at the convention. While fans might suspect something secretive is brewing, it could simply be time for a fresh profile picture.
