
For decades, Hollywood has turned Stephen King’s novels into popular movies and TV shows. Following a recent surge of new King adaptations – including films like The Monkey, The Life of Chuck, and The Long Walk, and the series It: Welcome to Derry – four of the most highly-regarded Stephen King adaptations are now available to stream in one place.
Stephen King fans should consider subscribing to Peacock this January. The streaming service has added four popular movie adaptations of his work – The Green Mile, Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Shining – all available starting January 1st. These critically acclaimed films, originally released over the 1980s and 90s, are considered some of the best adaptations of King’s novels. However, as streaming rights often change, it’s uncertain how long these movies will remain on Peacock.
The Shining Is One of the Most Controversial Stephen King Adaptations
Many consider The Shining to be one of the best movies ever made based on a Stephen King story. The 1980s were a great time for King adaptations – films like Cujo, Firestarter, and Stand By Me also came out then – and director Stanley Kubrick’s version of King’s 1977 novel became the benchmark for suspenseful, atmospheric horror. While it’s now considered a classic, the film wasn’t without its critics at the time.

Stephen King has often praised adaptations of his novel The Shining. He particularly likes the 1996 miniseries, in which he played an active role, and Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep, a sequel to The Shining based on King’s 2013 novel.
What’s New on Peacock?
Peacock added a lot of new movies this month, including four Stephen King films, plus titles like The Da Vinci Code, House of Gucci, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Maze Runner, and The Terminator on January 1st. More are coming soon! Subscribers can look forward to The Hunger Games series (starting January 14th), Twisters (January 15th), and Jurassic World (January 16th), giving them plenty of fresh content to enjoy.
