Daisuke Ashihara’s manga, World Trigger, launched in 2013 and is praised for its detailed world and engaging story. Despite having many qualities fans enjoy in a Shonen series, it hasn’t become a major hit, largely due to issues with its anime adaptation and breaks in publication caused by the author’s health. The manga originally appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump before moving to a monthly schedule in Jump SQ in 2018, following a two-year hiatus. The story takes place in Mikado City, where a strange gate opens, allowing terrifying invaders from another dimension – known as Neighbors – to wreak havoc.
This series features a technologically superior race against whom conventional weapons are ineffective. The city was nearly destroyed by constant attacks from neighboring forces until, four years ago, a mysterious group called the Border Defense Agency arrived to offer protection. The story centers on Yuuma Kuga, a Border trainee who seems normal but has a hidden and significant secret. Fans are hopeful that an announcement regarding a new anime adaptation will be made at a large Japanese anime and manga convention this December.
Jump Festa 2026 Has Exciting Plans For World Trigger

Although the series moved to a magazine format, new installments still come out on an inconsistent schedule. Despite some initial disappointment with the first anime season’s animation, devoted fans continued to eagerly anticipate new chapters and further anime adaptations. The third season, which premiered in October 2021, was praised for its improved visuals. However, despite concluding in January 2022, the studio hasn’t confirmed a fourth season. Fans have been waiting for years, and a recent announcement at Jump Festa has renewed hope for the anime’s return.
The Jump Festa event will take place on December 20th and 21st, 2025. On the first day, World Trigger will be featured on the Super Stage from 4:20 PM to 4:50 PM Japan Standard Time. The official website promises a big announcement, probably about the anime, but hasn’t revealed any details yet. Voice actors Tomoe Muranaka (Yuma Kuga), Yuki Kaji (Osamu Mikumo), Nao Tamura (Chika Amatori), Yuichi Nakamura (Yuichi Jin), and Hideyuki Tanaka (Replica) are also scheduled to appear.
The anime is nearing the end of the B-Rank Wars Arc, with the Away Mission Test Arc coming up next. This arc is split into two parts and is widely considered one of the best storylines in the manga so far. The manga now has enough content for the studio to begin working on a new season. You can currently watch World Trigger on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
