Fox’s Animation Domination lineup has suffered a loss with the conclusion of a popular animated show after five seasons, and one of the show’s creators has now spoken about it after the final episode aired. The Great North wrapped up five years after its debut on Fox, but viewers had anticipated the ending following the Season 5 finale. The show concluded with a special, extended musical season reflecting on its history, and its social media accounts encouraged fans to tune in while they still could.
Staff members confirmed on social media that they had finished working on The Great North, and Fox later announced that the animated series had been cancelled after five successful seasons. The Great North co-creator Wendy Molyneux unexpectedly posted a message to fans on Instagram after the last episode aired, saying goodbye to the show but remaining optimistic, stating, “You never know! Animation never dies!”
The Great North Creator Bids Farewell to Show After Cancellation
Before I finish with this account, I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to The Great North! They are truly some of the best people I’ve ever worked with, and they created a wonderful show that still lives on,” Molyneux posted on Instagram after The Great North concluded. “Even more importantly, if you’re a line producer, executive, or showrunner who is looking to hire, please reach out – we have a team of talented professionals we’ve worked with for years and can highly recommend,” the creator added.
“We’re grateful for our dedicated fans,” the creator said, offering a glimmer of hope for the show’s future. “Please continue to recommend it – you never know what might happen! Animation can always find a way.” Finally, they added with a touch of whimsy, “And don’t forget to appreciate the beauty of nature and say ‘Hot dog!’” The Great North concluded its five-season, 97-episode run on Fox this past September. That’s a significant achievement, especially considering how many animated shows – for adults or any audience – don’t reach that milestone. However, a continuation isn’t out of the question.
Animated Shows Are Never Truly Cancelled Anymore
The world of animation has changed a lot recently, with many beloved older shows returning for new seasons long after they originally finished. Revivals of Futurama and King of the Hill have proven successful on Hulu, even years after being cancelled, so there’s a good chance The Great North could get a similar second life in the future. It’s a popular show within Fox’s lineup and has a dedicated fanbase that really enjoys it.
The Great North’s past episodes are now available on Hulu, and watching them there is currently the best way to show your support for the show. To demonstrate to decision-makers that there’s still interest – and hopefully encourage them to reconsider – boosting those streaming numbers is key. This news might even lead new viewers to discover the series, which is great because there’s a lot to watch right now. While there’s a chance it could return someday, this marks the end for now.
