Mark Sanchez is recovering after a chilling encounter.
The Fox Sports broadcaster, a former NFL quarterback who played from 2009 to 2018, is “in stable condition” after being hospitalized in Indianapolis on Oct. 4 due to injuries.
The network expressed profound gratitude to the medical staff for the outstanding care and support they provided, according to a statement posted on X (previously known as Twitter) on Oct. 4. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
According to Andrew Kessler, Sanchez’s agent, that’s the extent of what he can share. He told CBS News, “That is really all I know and can say.”
The 38-year-old traveled to the city to provide commentary for Fox’s broadcast of the game on October 5th between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Police are looking into a fight between two men. One man suffered cuts, and the other was stabbed, according to a statement from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Authorities described the incident as a “physical disturbance” and said one man received “lacerations” and the other sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds.
Although the bureau didn’t reveal the names of those involved, investigators stated the situation seemed to be a one-time disagreement between the two men. Currently, no arrests have been made regarding this case. More information will be released as it becomes available.
Sanchez, a father to 6-month-old twins with his wife Perry Mattfeld, and also to 8-year-old son Daniel from a previous relationship, played for the New York Jets for five years after being drafted fifth overall in 2009. He later played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears, finishing his NFL career with the Washington team in 2018.
In the wake of Sanchez’s injury, the Jets sent him well-wishes on social media.
The team shared a message on X, saying, “Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family.” They added, “Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6.”
