Frankie Muniz Reveals Why He Ignored Concerns About Being ‘Pigeonholed’ When Joining The Malcolm In The Middle Reboot, And I Find His Thoughts Refreshing

Without a doubt, many actors are recognized for their memorable TV roles, and Frankie Muniz as Malcolm is no exception to this rule. What’s intriguing to observe is how each actor deals with becoming synonymous with such iconic characters. For the star of “Malcolm in the Middle,” it appears that typecasting issues didn’t pose much of a challenge for him during his return. I find it fascinating how his feelings about being the beloved genius character are quite unexpected.

Although the revival of “Malcolm in the Middle” hasn’t yet been officially scheduled for 2025, Muniz graced the cover of US Weekly instead. In anticipation of the Disney+ release in December, he shared extensive insights with the publication about his return to the large Malcolm family. When questioned about concerns of being typecast as a character, Muniz provided a thoughtful response. He takes pride in being linked to Malcolm due to its significant influence and remarked that he is happy to be associated with the show.

People caution against being stereotyped as only one character, but I respond, ‘No matter where I go globally, people recognize Malcolm and adore the series and that family.’ Recently in Mexico, people were actually weeping to me about how it transformed their family dynamics. The scheduling wasn’t ideal because I’ve become a full-time NASCAR driver, but I didn’t decline due to that reason.

I must admit, I’m truly captivated by the freshness of his response concerning the beloved fictional character. It’s not common for every character to be cherished like this. And in this digital era of streaming, it’s not uncommon for shows (and movies) to gain new fans over time. Yet, what stands out to me is Muniz’s continued connection with MITM enthusiasts, despite the passage of 20 years and his career shift.

Twenty years after its final episode, there’s been an announcement that “Malcolm in the Middle” is returning, causing quite a stir online. It turns out that the rumors circling around were actually initiated by Muniz and his X account a decade ago. However, it was Bryan Cranston who spearheaded the efforts to make this reboot happen over the past decade, as he revealed: the creator of the show had no interest initially but eventually agreed due to Cranston’s persistence.

Back in 2015, I posted a Tweet expressing my curiosity about where Malcolm and his family were now. I was taken aback by the enthusiasm it generated. After that, I contacted show creator Linwood Boomer, who wasn’t keen on revisiting the storyline. Bryan Cranston and I discussed it, and he spearheaded the efforts to make it a reality. It eventually took a decade for it to come to fruition.

It’s clear that the journey for the star of “Big Fat Liar” has been nothing short of wild, from securing the original role, to the internet’s support in its revival, and being loved consistently throughout. With the revival of “Malcolm in the Middle” now wrapped up, I’m certain everyone, including the cast, crew, and Muniz, are eagerly awaiting its premiere. If this continuation lives up to the hype from the 00’s series, Malcolm and his team could find themselves with an even larger fan base.

We’ll need to observe how a mature adaptation of the popular FOX Network family show performs. I truly wish it thrives for numerous reasons, but Muniz’s dedication to Malcolm amidst juggling racing and filming might be the most significant. Here’s to hoping they manage to dodge the traps and issues common to a revival series.

Be certain to maintain an active Disney+ subscription by December for streaming enjoyment! Until then, you’ll be able to access the original series on their platform.
