Freakier Friday: The Megamix Family Swap You Can’t Miss!

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis might need to, like, chill for a sec.

In the latest trailer for the upcoming film “Freakier Friday,” the on-screen mother and daughter characters will need to undo not just one, but two instances of body swapping, set to hit cinemas on August 8th.

Intriguing, it seems your destiny lines have crossed, Vanessa Bayer tells Tess and Anna in the trailer released on March 14th. It’s as if your paths have intersected before. You’ve encountered each other before, learning lessons that could potentially be of use to you again.

As they depart, both of them can’t help but feel a familiar growl, and Tess attempts to downplay it by suggesting, “Perhaps it’s just in our minds.

Regrettably, it didn’t go their way, despite my fervent hopes that it would. Some twenty-odd years since the magical exchange between them in the 2003 Disney film “Freaky Friday,” they’ve returned to our screens with Harper (played by Julia Butters) and Lily (Sophia Hammons), set to join their respective families. Not surprisingly, this double body swap couldn’t have been more ill-timed, as they attempt to juggle two households in the process.

As Anna wakes up in Harper’s body, she exclaims, “Oh, no! Not again.”

In the original film, it was possible that Anna referred to her mother as a “crypt keeper.” However, when Lily discovers she’s now inhabiting Tess’ body, she comes up with a more costly insult.

As he holds her face firmly, Tess exclaims, “Your face resembles a Birkin bag that has been exposed to sunlight and decayed!

Meanwhile, the quartet is attempting to maintain an air of nonchalance as they explore one another’s worlds, and in the midst of their adventures, the charismatic character played by Chad Michael Murray, named Jake, makes a flamboyant appearance.

Curtis guarantees that the sequel will not disappoint; it’s destined to be far from a letdown. In an interview with TopMob News last September, she shared her enthusiasm by saying, “We had an exceptional filming day on Friday. Rest assured, you will be pleased.

According to Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, the 2003 movie “Freaky Friday” is actually the second time this story has been remade. The initial film adaptation was released back in 1976, and a television version came out in 1995.

2. The movie’s producer, Andrew Gunn, contacted Jodie Foster, who portrayed Annabel in the 1976 film, to propose the idea of her playing the mother’s role. However, Foster declined because she felt that her involvement might create unnecessary attention or distraction.

3. Annette Bening had been chosen to portray Tess Coleman, however, she withdrew just six days prior to the start of filming.

4. Having reached stardom as the first “scream queen” in the movie “Halloween”, Jamie Lee Curtis believed her leading actress days had come to an end until director Mark Waters asked her to step into the role previously held by Bening.

In 2003, Curtis shared with The Telegraph that during interviews he mentioned his age as 44, described himself as somewhat plump, had gray hair that he didn’t color, and was satisfied with his life. He also expressed that in this profession, he had always understood there comes a time when it’s appropriate to gracefully step away.

5. After reading the script and conferring with Waters, Curtis chose to embrace the part requiring her to assume a matriarchal role, which included changing her hair color and learning guitar skills. This transformation, she said, rejuvenated her career, proving that taking risks and allowing oneself to feel free can lead to great outcomes.

6. Following her standout performance in “The Parent Trap“, Lindsay Lohan temporarily stepped away from the spotlight, admitting that she felt disoriented by her rapid rise to stardom.

In her conversation with IGN back in 2003, she expressed that the fame from “Parent Trap” hit suddenly and the movie was simply fantastic. She then questioned how one could surpass such a great experience. To escape the limelight, she yearned for a normal life and attended high school. She also participated in two projects on Disney Channel, which were enjoyable, just to maintain her presence.

But when she came across the script for Freaky Friday, Lohan knew it was “perfect” for her.

7. To secure the role of Anna, Lindsay Lohan had to outperform four other actresses. Initially, Waters was unimpressed by her audition, stating in a 2005 episode of TopMob’s “True Hollywood Story” that it was “likely the worst of the five.” Nevertheless, he also acknowledged that she possessed star quality and an intense turbulence and energy which they believed would be intriguing for the character.

8. Initially, Kelly Osbourne was chosen to portray Lohan’s friend in the film, but she opted out after her mother, Sharon Osbourne, received a diagnosis of colon cancer and required attention.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan in 2013, Osbourne expressed that he found himself at a crossroads between pursuing his career and spending the potentially final moments of his mother’s life by her side. The decision was straightforward for him. He chose to say goodbye to his career and hello to his mother. For two-and-a-half years, he became her constant caregiver, acting as a nurse around the clock.

9. In the movie, Lohan shared her initial on-screen kiss with Chad Michael Murray, portraying Jake, her character Anna’s love interest. “By the 15th take,” Lohan remarked in a behind-the-scenes interview, “I wasn’t feeling too jittery anymore!

10. During an interview on Busy Tonight in 2019, Murray disclosed that he also shared a kiss with Curtis off-camera to help calm Lohan’s nerves before their filming kiss. When Curtis invited Lohan and Murray into her trailer to break the ice before recording began, Murray recounted that Curtis “spontaneously kissed me.” His response? “Wow, I just kissed Jamie Lee Curtis! This is fantastic!

11. Originally, Tom Selleck was set to portray Tess’ boyfriend Ryan, but he left the production following Bening’s departure. Instead, Mark Harmon stepped in and formed a strong bond with Curtis, leading to her making several guest appearances on Harmon’s successful CBS series, NCIS.

As an ardent devotee, let me share a fascinating tidbit: Amir Derakh, a remarkable talent from Orgy, was the one who initiated Curtis and Lohan into the art of guitar playing. Later on, Lohan showcased her skills by recording her debut track, “Ultimate,” for the soundtrack.

13. In the final scene, Liahn’s mother and former manager, Dina Liahn, makes a brief appearance as one of the attendees at the wedding.

14. In the 1976 film, Marc McClure, who was Annabel’s romantic interest, appears briefly as Boris, the delivery guy.

15. In an imagined conclusion, Ryan Malgarini as Harry and Harold Gould as his grandpa crack open their fortune cookies that cause body-swapping, right before an earthquake strikes, hinting at a possible follow-up storyline.

16. There was much talk of a sequel as Curtis told fans during a 2022 Halloween Ends press event in Mexico City that she would indeed return to play Tess. She also shared some news about her friendship with Lohan, saying she’d verify Lohan is genuine every time she texts her to make certain it’s not a scam.

Curtis reminisced about a memorable scene from the movie, referring to the part where they were both trying to learn a rap embedded in a Justin Timberlake song while sitting in the car, munching on French fries. The song he’s referring to is “Like I Love You” by Justin Timberlake. In the car, we would play the tape, then rewind it repeatedly, as we both worked on writing down the lyrics for that entire rap.

17. Approximately three months prior to the 20th anniversary of the initial film, it’s anticipated that Curtis and Lohan will switch bodies again. TopMob News has confirmed that a sequel to the movie is being developed.
