In the upcoming sequel “Freakier Friday,” you’ll recognize many familiar faces, with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis standing out among them. However, the movie also introduces some fresh talent to its ensemble of actors.
Manny Jacinto is one of them, playing Lohan’s character’s new love interest named Eric. However, he doesn’t participate in the body swapping antics himself. Instead, Eric finds himself witnessing all kinds of strange events unfolding around him, with no understanding as to why the women in his life are acting so uncharacteristically.
He offered me some guidance, stating frankly that I should prioritize self-protection and honesty since there will be many unusual occurrences. These include shifts in personalities and wardrobe changes. Given my role as the straightforward character, he suggested that maintaining truthfulness and authenticity would be most beneficial.
He went on to say, “Indeed, it can be quite a dance when everyone around you seems to be panicking – that phrase has a double meaning, if you will. However, when you’re the central character in a movie, the one who provides the emotional core, it becomes crucial to ensure everything feels genuine and true-to-life, since all the other performances are so exaggerated.
As the more serious character in the movie, I certainly had my share of responsibilities. Yet, amidst the filming process, there were numerous engaging and enjoyable activities that I found myself immersed in.
He exclaimed, “It was an amazing time!” We had the opportunity to experience it all in Los Angeles, a city not often used for filming anymore. It felt like crossing off everything on my wishlist – participating in crowd surfing, dancing enthusiastically like Patrick Swayze, and even trying out surfing… Essentially, it was as if I was checking off items from my bucket list during this movie. I sincerely hope that the enjoyment we experienced will be evident on screen.
Jacinto had always dreamt of one major achievement: working alongside Lohan. He reminisced about watching the first Freaky Friday movie with his family in 2003, when as a teenager he was captivated by Lindsay’s iconic presence on screen. Little did he expect that, 22 years later, he’d be sharing scenes with an icon like her.
His initial meeting with her carried a touch of intimidation, but fortunately, he managed to overcome that rather swiftly.
He mentioned that they shared an elevator ride with her, pondering if it was indeed her. However, prior to this encounter, they had gone through a rehearsal process together, which included Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons Lindsay, and himself. Their goal was to establish and deepen the emotional family bond between these four characters.
It was an unusual situation as we engaged in some unconventional acting exercises. However, she embraced it wholeheartedly. Everyone showed vulnerability and a readiness to push boundaries, which helped us bond and feel like a team. And it was fantastic! She proved to be an excellent scene partner both before, during, and after the exercise.
