A popular new game is now available for free on the PlayStation Store. While many players are enjoying it, opinions are mixed. The game is exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PC, meaning you won’t find it on consoles like the Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch. While future releases on other platforms are possible, it currently remains a major draw for PS5 owners.
On November 14th, Everstone Studios and NetEase Games launched Where Winds Meet, a new open-world action RPG. The game is set in ancient China during the 10th century and puts players in the role of a skilled sword master who’s uncovering lost secrets and learning about their own past.
Player Numbers and User Reviews
Currently, player numbers aren’t available for Where Winds Meet on PlayStation 5, but they are on Steam. On Steam, the game recently reached the 8th highest peak in concurrent players over the past 24 hours, surpassed only by popular titles like Delta Force, Apex Legends, Battlefield 6, Arc Raiders, PUBG, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2. It achieved this with a peak of 193,860 players. On the PlayStation Store, the game has quickly gathered over 10,300 user reviews – a significant number in a short period, exceeding what most PS5 games achieve in a similar timeframe.
Lots of people are trying out Where Winds Meet, but it’s interesting to look at how much they’re actually liking it. On Steam, it has over 6,000 reviews and a 79% positive rating – a good result. The PlayStation Store shows a similar score of 3.81 out of 5 stars. These aren’t overwhelmingly positive scores, but it’s important to consider that free games often get lower ratings. When a game is free, anyone can download it, meaning you get a much wider range of players with different levels of interest. If you’re spending $70 or $80 on a new game, you’ve likely done some research and are pretty sure you’ll enjoy it. That’s not the case with free games, so you end up with fewer dedicated and enthusiastic players reflected in the reviews.
Players generally love the game’s beautiful graphics and fluid combat, which feels similar to popular titles like Sekiro, Naraka: Bladepoint, Ghost of Tsushima, and Assassin’s Creed. However, some criticisms focus on the game’s gacha mechanics, which can lead to repetitive gameplay and a frustrating experience.
Despite the power of the PS5 Pro, the game Where Winds Meet doesn’t take advantage of its enhanced capabilities, and there are no plans to change that. While it’s disappointing for a major PlayStation exclusive, this is becoming common – many PS5 Pro owners have noticed that most new games don’t fully utilize the console’s extra power. As a result, the PS5 Pro isn’t the best platform to experience this popular new game.
