If you already own the popular horror game on PS4, you can now download the updated version for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro completely free, just in time for Halloween! Originally released in 2017, the PS5 version came out this week. With few new horror games available this month, this 8-year-old title might be the perfect spooky experience for PS5 players this Halloween – whether you’re revisiting it or playing it for the first time.
So, if you already own *Little Nightmares* on PS4, awesome news! You can get the upgraded *Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition* on PS5 completely free. If you don’t have the PS4 version, it’ll cost you $20 to pick up the PS5 version. But trust me, it’s worth checking out! This new version finally runs at 4K and 60FPS, and they’ve seriously upped the graphics with things like RTX reflections, better water effects, more detailed particles, and cool volumetric lighting. They even added more helpers in the game to make the experience smoother. Honestly, it’s a huge upgrade, and I’m a little surprised Bandai Namco didn’t make everyone pay extra for it.
About the Game
If you haven’t played *Little Nightmares* before, it’s a spooky puzzle platformer developed by Tarsier Studios. The first game was a big success for them, earning good reviews (scoring in the 70s and 80s on Metacritic) and selling millions of copies. A sequel came out in 2021 and was also well-received. Just last week, the third game, *Little Nightmares III*, was released.
Although Bandai Namco continues to publish it, *Little Nightmares III* wasn’t developed by the original creators, Tarsier Studios. They’ve shifted their focus to *Reanimal*, a new game they fully own, whereas *Little Nightmares* remains Bandai Namco’s property. Instead, Supermassive Games took on the development of the third installment. Sadly, the game appears to be lower in quality and isn’t performing as well commercially, disappointing fans and, seemingly, Bandai Namco and even Tarsier Studios to some degree.
Supermassive Games is known for horror titles like *Until Dawn*, but their games have been hit or miss. Taking on an existing series mid-way is always a challenge, and it’s understandable that this latest game hasn’t been as popular as previous entries. It’s likely this series won’t continue much further, and it might even be ending here.
