‘Friday Night Lights’ Star Jesse Plemons Reflects on the Show’s Weirdest Season

Jesse Plemons, known for his early role on the hit show Friday Night Lights before becoming a celebrated film actor, recently discussed a shocking plot twist from the show’s second season. In the NBC drama, which aired from 2006 to 2011, Plemons played Landry Clarke, a shy character who unexpectedly attacked and killed a stalker with a pipe while protecting Tyra Collette (Adrianna Palicki) at a gas station. The two were then forced to dispose of the body in a river.

You know, it’s been nineteen years since that crazy scene aired, and I was recently chatting with Entertainment Weekly’s ‘The Awardist’ podcast about reading the script for the first time. I was honestly just relieved they hadn’t warned me about anything bad happening to my character! I didn’t even worry about being killed off or anything – they kept it a complete surprise, which was a good thing, honestly.

It was a tricky situation. I was surprised, like everyone else, to see that a character meant to be funny would commit such a serious act driven by love. However, I also felt I couldn’t really challenge it, since it was part of the story.

The show Friday Night Lights was known for being very realistic, which made it challenging for actor Jeremy Plemons to portray a more outlandish storyline. He was concerned about how to maintain the show’s authenticity while playing the part, worrying he might ruin the overall realism. By season three, Landry and Tyra had been fully exonerated of all criminal accusations.

Taylor Kitsch’s Advice for Future ‘Friday Night Lights’ Stars

Taylor Kitsch, who also starred in the original Friday Night Lights, has responded to news of a new version of the show. This reboot is being developed by the original creative team – Jason Katims, Peter Berg, and Brian Grazer. The story will center around a high school football team and their temporary coach as they try to win the Texas State Championship after a devastating hurricane, offering hope to their community.

While doing publicity for The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which debuted on Prime Video last summer, actor Taylor Kitsch – known for playing Tim Riggins – offered some advice to the actor who might take on the role in the future.

I’m definitely done playing the character Riggins. But it seems like you’re always trying to make a mark, and I appreciate that people still connect with the role. As a storyteller, the best thing you can do is create something that really moves people, whether it’s through a song or a performance. To whoever takes on the role next, go for it and try to make a lasting impact, just like many of us did on that show.

In a recent interview with Esquire, producer Berg explained that the reboot will feature a completely new cast, though football will still be central to the story. He noted the original series aired a long time ago and they’re aiming to incorporate many fresh ideas. While he didn’t rule it out, any returns from the original cast would likely be limited to cameos. This raises the question of whether they’ll be able to convince Taylor Kitsch to make an appearance.
