The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is arriving soon, with the first episode premiering in less than a week! The new season will follow Frieren, Fern, and Stark as they continue their travels north. Now that Fern has become a First Class Mage, the group can venture onto the Northern Plateau, heading towards Aureole. Their journey won’t be easy, as they’ll face many dangers and powerful monsters due to the area’s high concentration of magical energy. While the total number of episodes hasn’t been announced yet, we can likely expect to see the “Continued Northern Travels,” “Divine Revolte,” and “Golden Land” arcs adapted this season.
The new anime series will start streaming on Crunchyroll on January 16, 2026, though the exact time hasn’t been announced yet. We’ll likely find out when the English dub will be available a few weeks after the season premiere. As the release date gets closer, director Tomoya Kitagawa, along with first season director Keiichiro Saito, the new assistant director, and series composer/scriptwriter Chihiro Suzuki, are sharing details about the upcoming season in an interview with Mantan Web.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Will Feature Himmel’s Importance in The Story Again

Kitagawa explained that while Season 1 focused on Freiren remembering and learning about people through Himmel’s words, Season 2 will show her sharing those lessons with Fern and Stark.
He added that this storyline will unfold as the group develops, and he wants to show Fern and Stark growing alongside Freiren. This will be the main focus of the second season. We’ll also see this reflected in their battles, as Fern learns from and gradually improves by watching Freiren’s fighting technique. He made sure to include these elements throughout the story.
The story starts with the death of Himmel, a celebrated hero, but his influence continues to drive the plot. He deeply impacted Frieren’s life, even changing how she views humans. In fact, Frieren didn’t begin her journey until decades after his death, motivated by a desire to reconnect with and understand him. Beyond that, Himmel is also Frieren’s love interest. While his feelings for her were clear, Frieren’s feelings remain more subtle. Viewers will see more of Himmel in the next season, though only through memories and flashbacks.
If you missed the first season, you can watch it on Crunchyroll. The manga is currently paused, but all available chapters can be read for free on Viz Media’s Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End website. There, you’ll also find links to purchase the manga in both physical and digital formats. There are currently 14 English volumes available, and while Volume 15 was released in Japan in December 2023, it hasn’t been released internationally yet.
