Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Gets a New Release After Season 2 Finale

The year started strong with the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, following Frieren and her companions as they travel through the Northern regions. Although this season is shorter than anticipated, with just 10 episodes, the story is becoming more thrilling as the group faces increasingly dangerous challenges. After Fern earns her First Class Mage certification—a requirement for traveling in the North—Frieren’s party continues to encounter new threats. The season has now concluded, hinting at the upcoming Golden Land Arc and a significant new character who will be fully introduced in the next season.

After the Season 2 finale, the official YouTube channel of TOHO Animation released a new non-credit music video, depicting scenes from the final episode. The scenes include the daily lives of the party as they try to get some travel funds for their journey ahead and stumble upon one of the most beautiful scenes ever. The ending features the last episode’s ending theme, Trace by Milet, the same artist who also provided the first opening theme of Season 1, titled Anytime Anywhere, which was another smashing hit. Additionally, Milet also performed the second season’s ending theme, The Story of Us.

What Will Happen in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3?

I’m excited to share that the anime will be back in October 2027 with Season 3! It’s going to cover the incredibly popular Golden Land Arc. Right after the Season 2 finale, the official website announced the release timeframe and gave us a first glimpse of Mahat of the Golden City – he’s shaping up to be a really important character in the new season. They’ve introduced him as one of the Seven Sages of Destruction, so we can expect some amazing powers. Season 3 will follow Frieren’s group as they travel to a legendary land said to be completely made of gold. It looks like it’s going to be quite the adventure!

Frieren and her companions don’t yet know about a place called the Golden Land, but it’s been revealed to be the home of Denken, a mage who took the exam with Fern. They’ll meet up with him again in the next season and help him face a dangerous enemy as he nears the end of his life. Because the Golden Land story arc covers 28 chapters in the manga, it’s currently impossible to say whether a third season will include any other storylines.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Continues Its Indefinite Hiatus

The anime is coming out shortly, but the manga is still on hold since October 2025 with no news about when it will continue. The creators, writer Kanehito Yamada and illustrator Tsukasa Abe, announced the break to give themselves more time to work on the series due to health concerns, allowing them to proceed at a comfortable pace.

The series went on another break last year, following a brief return in July 2025 after a previous pause in January. The creators are using this time to rest and work on the manga at a sustainable pace. This break is simply to help them reorganize their schedule, and the series should be back in a few months.
