Everyone is eagerly awaiting the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which is coming out in just over a week! The first season ended with Fern becoming a First Class Mage, and the new season will follow Frieren, Fern, and Stark as they continue their travels north. Now that Fern has officially reached First Class Mage status, the group can head to the Northern Plateau and search for Aureole. This area is known for its strong monsters and high concentration of magical energy, which will present many challenges for the adventurers. The first season, which had 28 episodes split into two parts, covered the first 60 chapters of the original manga.
We don’t yet know how many episodes Season 2 of the anime will have, so it’s hard to say which story arcs will be included. However, because the “Continued Northern Travels” arc is relatively short (only 10 chapters), it’s likely the anime will also adapt the “Divine Revolte” and “Golden Land” arcs. Season 2 will start streaming on Crunchyroll on January 16th, though the exact time hasn’t been announced. We can also anticipate that the English dub will be released a few weeks after the season premieres.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Staff Revealed Season 2 Is Modeled After Season 1

With the new season being promoted, director Tomoya Kitagawa, first season director Keiichiro Saito, a new assistant director, and series composer/scriptwriter Chihiro Suzuki recently spoke with Mantan Web about what’s coming up.
Kitagawa explained that Season 2 will continue the story established in Season 1, focusing on the development of the three main characters. Suzuki added that while he initially thought a fresh approach with Kitagawa and Saito’s styles would be good, he understands and appreciates the decision to stay true to the original season’s feel, even if he has some mixed feelings about it. He expressed his happiness that the first season is being used as a foundation for the new one.
Season 2 continues the story, but also delves deeper into its central themes. According to Kitagawa, while the first season focused on Freiren remembering Himmel and getting to know new people, the second season will show her sharing those lessons with Fern and Stark. This will be a key part of the characters’ development, as the story explores how Fern and Stark mature alongside Freiren.
I’ve been watching the new season, and what really stands out is how beautifully it tells its story. It doesn’t just move forward; it constantly connects what’s happening now with moments from the past. These two timelines aren’t separate – they exist alongside each other, and that’s what makes it so engaging. Instead of a simple, linear plot, we get these thoughtful flashbacks to Frieren’s adventures with Himmel’s group. These aren’t just for backstory; they genuinely impact what Frieren is doing now, adding a lot of emotional weight. It really gives you a sense of time passing, in a way that’s both peaceful and a little bittersweet.
