Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Unveils New Look At Fern Amid Season 2

The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End premiered in January as part of the Winter 2024 anime season and will finish in March with the Divine Revolte Arc. This season is shorter than initially planned. Frieren and her companions continue their trek north, now with Fern officially recognized as a First-Class Mage. This part of their journey is particularly perilous, and travel through the area is restricted to groups including at least one mage of that rank. Fern is a fan favorite character and is frequently featured in promotional materials for the series. Frieren first encountered Fern as a young child; Heiter took her in after she was orphaned by war.

Fern studied magic with Frieren and joined her on adventures after Heiter passed away. To promote the new Blu-ray and DVD release, a special cover art of Fern, created by character designer Maru Takase, has been revealed. The Blu-ray for the second volume of Season 2 will be available on May 20, 2026, initially only in Japan. The anime’s official website has details about the release, including bonus postcards and pricing.

What’s Next For Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Fans?

The anime recently finished its story arc about traveling through the North before taking a one-week break. During this journey, Frieren and her companions met new characters and faced dangerous monsters. The northern lands are still recovering from demon attacks, and the situation is becoming more difficult as they approach their destination – a place where the spirits of the deceased reside. Even though the Demon King is gone, demons remain a significant threat, particularly in the North, which was near the Demon King’s former castle.

The anime follows the group as they head to the Rufen Region on the Northern Plateau, continuing the Divine Revolte Arc. They’ve been tasked with defeating a demon that wiped out a village. Along the way, they run into familiar faces from the Mage Exam and meet Revolte, a remarkably strong character. Because this arc is short – just six chapters – the next season might start the Golden Land Arc, though it may not cover the entire story.

The manga went on another indefinite break last October because the creators weren’t feeling well. They are still working on the story, but there’s no news yet on when it will continue. The anime’s second season started on January 16, 2026, with new episodes released on Crunchyroll every Friday at 7:00 AM Pacific Time, shortly after they air in Japan. While the second season is available on Netflix, it’s currently limited to a few Asian countries, and it will be some time before it’s available to stream in the U.S.
