Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End for its second season, and a preview of the first episode has been released before it premieres on Crunchyroll. Winter 2026 is shaping up to be a busy anime season with many new shows and returning favorites. However, Frieren is one of the most anticipated debuts of the season.
The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is coming out later this week, and a new update on the anime’s website has given fans a sneak peek at the first episode. It looks like Frieren and Fern will be embarking on a new adventure that initially prevents them from using magic. You can see preview images of the season 2 premiere below as we get ready for the exciting new season!
How to Watch Frieren Season 2 Episode 1

The first episode of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, titled “Well, Shall We Get Going?,” will premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll on January 16th at 7:00 AM Pacific Time. It will be available in North, Central, and South America, as well as Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India. The episode will reintroduce viewers to Frieren, Fern, and Stark as they begin a new, peaceful journey after leaving the city of Oisarst, traveling through the northern regions.
The story follows the characters as they stumble into a hole caused by unstable ground. Inside, they discover a unique mineral called ‘demon-sealing ore’ which cancels out magic. Without their magical abilities, Frieren and Fern try to find a way out, but they are soon confronted by a monster. Currently, the series is available with Japanese audio and English subtitles. Crunchyroll has announced that an English dub will be released sometime in the future, though the exact date hasn’t been set.
What to Know for Frieren Season 2

Tomoya Kitagawa is directing the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, replacing Keiichiro Saito who directed the first season. Keisuke Kojima and Yuri Fujinaka are the new character designers, taking over from Reiko Nagasawa. Tomohiro Suzuki will once again be responsible for the series’ composition, and Evan Call is returning to compose the music. All of the original voice actors from Season 1 will also be returning.
I’m excited to hear that Kazuhiko Inoue is joining the cast as the Southern Hero! We don’t know much about his character yet, but I’m really curious to see what role he’ll play as Frieren and her companions continue their journey. It sounds like the new season is going to be full of new characters and adventures in this magical world.
