From season 3 ending explained: Why did the Man in Yellow kill [SPOILER]?

As a movie enthusiast with over three decades of experiencing the twists and turns of various narratives, I must say that the season 3 finale of “From” left me both stunned and intrigued. The death of Jim was a shocker, but it seems that no one is safe in Fromland!

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for From season 3 episode 10.

Following the anticipation, just as predicted, the fourth season of the show was confirmed following the intense cliffhanger we were left with at the end of season 3.

After a series of turmoil, loss, and revelations that edged us towards the truth in Fromland, the season 3 ending lived up to expectations.

At the end of the series, viewers witnessed a significant character’s demise, an enormous revelation concerning Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade (David Alpay), as well as further instances of time travel, leaving us hanging on another significant cliffhanger for season 4.

Even star Harold Perrineau admitted he’s still got big questions.

So, here’s what went down in the finale episode of From season 3!

From season 3 ending explained: Why did the Man in Yellow kill Jim?

In my perspective, I found myself astounded by the revelation that Tabitha and Jade were none other than the reincarnations of Miranda and Christopher. This startling truth, unfortunately, led to a tragic turn of events as The Man in Yellow felt compelled to act against Jim due to this newfound knowledge.

Over and over, the Man in Yellow appears to obstruct the duo’s pursuit of the truth, eventually leading to the tragic consequence: the death of Jim (Eion Bailey), Tabitha’s spouse, once they ultimately uncover it.

Doubtlessly eliminating Jim, the Man in Yellow (Douglas E Hughes) provided clarification, thereby confirming that he was the mysterious figure who cautioned Jim during season 1 about Tabitha’s potentially dangerous curiosity on the radio.

However, it also opens up more questions – why is this knowledge so dangerous?

Despite numerous instances of death, Jim becomes the initial significant character to perish, signifying that anyone could potentially face the same fate.

It’s important to note that the Man in Yellow is not allowed to directly harm Tabitha or Jade because of their past relationships with the town.

The season 3 finale has given us some of these answers, but certainly not all of them.

Who are Miranda and Christopher?

Miranda and Christopher are earlier versions of Tabitha and Jade.

In the final episode of season 3, it was shown that the duo periodically return to the town, or perhaps they’re undergoing a cycle of rebirth (as some viewers speculated), with the aim of rescuing the children.

This detail on its own provides many answers about Tabitha’s strong bond with Victor (since it turns out that Tabitha is, in fact, a different manifestation of his mother) and the reason behind Tabitha’s recurring memories of Miranda.

In a poignant twist, it turns out that the kids serve as prompts for Tabitha and Jade, reminding them of their historical ties to the town. Jim discovers that the figures on the bottle tree correspond to musical notes, and when Jade plays the song derived from these notes, the children materialize and promptly jog the duo’s memory about their past lives in the community.

What’s more, they realise that one of the children was their daughter.

What happened to Fatima?

In a shocking twist of fate, Fatima delivered what is now known as the Smiley monster, a creature that was seemingly destroyed by Boyd during season 2 but has returned to life.

Besides wrapping up Fatima’s harrowing pregnancy saga (luckily, she turned out okay, just as actress Perrineau had hinted), it also unveils a more chilling fact about the monsters – they appear to be immortal and seem impervious to permanent death.

It seems like defeating the monsters permanently might only be possible by rescuing the children. As such, Tabitha and Jade are crucial for everyone’s wellbeing. However, considering they haven’t succeeded in previous lives, will they find a solution in this one?

In the process of saving Fatima, there’s a more sinister aspect of Boyd that emerges when he subjects Elgin to cruel treatment upon discovering that Elgin knows her location.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but mention that it’s Sara who steps back into the spotlight with a chilling act. She removes one of Elgin’s eyes and in doing so, prevents Boyd from escalating the violence any further.

What does Julie’s time travel mean?

As a devoted film enthusiast, I must confess, the concluding sequences of season 3 left me heartbroken. It became evident that Julie’s adventures through time had limited transformative power, for she was ultimately unable to save her father, Jim.

In the moments preceding Jim’s passing, a future incarnation of Julie suddenly appears, saying to him, “This is when the event takes place.

Although she’s expected to carry on with her time-traveling adventures, accumulating useful information, she probably won’t have the ability to affect things immediately, as her brother Ethan advises her.

However, one thing she could potentially do is impart this knowledge to the residents of Fromland.

Given our understanding, knowledge seems to hold significant importance in this town. Could it then be that Julie holds the key to their future survival?
