If you purchased the deluxe edition of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, or upgraded to it, you’re likely wondering when the promised expansion will be released. The good news is FromSoftware hasn’t forgotten about it, but it seems the release date is slightly later than originally expected.
Kadokawa, the company that owns FromSoftware, recently announced its financial results for the last three months. The report shows that the multiplayer game Nightreign, a sequel to their 2022 Game of the Year title, is a big success and has already sold more copies than expected.
Elden Ring Nightreign DLC Will Be Here By The End Of FY2025

According to a recent report about FromSoftware’s upcoming projects, the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is currently in development and expected to be released before March 31, 2026.
Although it seems like a small delay, it actually isn’t. FromSoftware said the DLC would be out sometime in the last three months of 2025, but that could mean the last three months of their fiscal year, which ends in March, not December.
Okay, so maybe FromSoftware didn’t originally plan things the way it seems now with this DLC, but honestly? They could totally say that’s what they meant all along, and most of us fans wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. It’s a bit cheeky, but I’m not even mad!
Okay, so the new DLC doesn’t have a firm release date yet, which is a little frustrating, but you can actually purchase it right now! It’s $15, and when the expansion finally drops, we’ll also get the digital soundtrack and artbook, which is a nice bonus. The store page is pretty vague about what’s in the DLC, honestly. All it says is that the expansion will add new Nightfarers and new bosses – multiple of each! – and I’m really hoping it adds a lot to the game we already love.
Nightreign saw its biggest player numbers right after launch, but it’s maintained a solid and dedicated player base. This is impressive for a paid multiplayer game that doesn’t receive frequent updates like many modern online games. Currently, Nightreign consistently has around 30,000 players online at the same time on Steam, and we expect that number to increase when the downloadable content is released.
Kadokawa’s latest financial report highlights how much FromSoftware is currently working on, with plans for releases through 2026. First up is the Nightreign DLC, followed by a version of Elden Ring for the new Switch 2 console – though it sounds like this version still needs some final polishing. They’re also still on schedule to release Duskbloods, a Switch 2 exclusive game, in 2026, despite very little being known about it.
