FromSoftware, you appear to have broken Elden Ring Nightreign: the new DLC class Undertaker is an ult-spamming, boss-melting monster

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, including the Forsaken Hollows area, is now available. Despite receiving some of the lowest user reviews FromSoftware has ever seen on Steam, it introduces some exciting new content to the game’s unique combat system. A standout addition is the Undertaker, one of the new Nightfarers. Her incredibly strong abilities have quickly made her a popular choice for players who enjoy powerful characters wielding massive weapons, or simply want to defeat bosses with ease.

Let’s quickly cover how to unlock the Scholar and Undertaker in Nightreign, so you can start playing with both of these new characters.

Bandai Namco recently shared a video explaining Undertaker’s powers, and it’s clear what makes her a strong character. She can automatically charge her most powerful attack – her ultimate – in two ways: by successfully dodging an enemy’s grab attack (those with the dark, shadowy effect), or when a teammate uses their ultimate ability.

You might notice a complex strategy unfolding. This lets teams of three Undertakers link together as many as nine powerful abilities in a row. Each player uses their standard ability, and then immediately switches to a version that doesn’t require energy, creating a continuous flow of attacks.

It seems logical that an ability used so often would have reduced effectiveness, like a weaker ultimate. However, player testing shows this isn’t the case – it’s actually one of the most powerful ultimates in the game. It’s also very easy to use because of its long range and how reliably it targets enemies. It feels like launching a guided missile, and it’s satisfying to see significant damage dealt with each hit.

Triple Undertaker is insane. Just spamming ultimates from r/Nightreign

The Undertaker ability boosts your attack power and defenses, making you harder to damage and break poise. When fully charged, it also lets you automatically dodge attacks. This provides a general improvement to both offense and defense, working especially well with powerful ultimate attacks and offering a solid advantage even when your ultimate isn’t ready.

Undertaker is a powerful fighter who excels at dealing damage and disrupting enemies, especially bosses. She’s particularly effective with heavy weapons and benefits greatly from having other Undertakers on her team. If you see a group of these tall, powerful nuns dominating the Limveld map, it’s best to team up with them rather than fight – they’re a force to be reckoned with!
