Frostrail playtest begins April 16

Shiro Unlimited and FakeFish are letting players try out their upcoming co-op survival shooter, Frostrail, with a playtest starting April 16th. You can sign up to participate now on the game’s Steam page.

According to Ez Jamsen, lead designer of FakeFish, their new game, Frostrail, is a challenging survival experience designed for both individual players and teams. In a recent announcement, Jamsen explained that the team focused on creating a world that feels dangerous yet vibrant, and they’re excited to see how players navigate the frozen landscape when the game’s playtest starts.

After a devastating disaster turned the world into a frozen wasteland, people survive by constantly traveling. Steam-powered trains and the railway lines they run on are the last hope for humanity, offering a way to escape the extreme cold and endless blizzards. Players can explore this dangerous world alone or team up with others online, always moving forward into the uncertain future.

To keep the train moving, players need to search abandoned towns, icy shelters, and hidden ruins for essential supplies. However, the biting cold isn’t the only threat. The train’s noise attracts dangerous creatures called Revenants – corrupted spirits of the dead. Players will need to build weapons and equipment, carefully manage ammunition, and fight in fast-paced, first-person shooter battles to withstand the constant attacks.

Venture further into the frozen lands to uncover valuable rewards. You can grow your train into a powerful, mobile base by adding new cars, workshops, and defenses. To survive, you’ll need to explore the world, gather resources, and withstand harsh blizzards, keep your engine running, and defend against the relentless Revenant threat.

Frostrail is due out in Early Access for PC via Steam in 2026.
