Full House Star Dave Coulier Reveals Second Cancer Diagnosis

Just seven months after announcing he was cancer-free following a battle with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, actor Dave Coulier has shared that he’s been diagnosed with cancer again. Coulier is best known for playing the funny character Joey Gladstone on the show Full House, which aired for eight seasons between 1987 and 1995.

Dave Coulier, known for playing Joey on the original Full House and its Netflix sequel Fuller House (2016), recently revealed on the Today show that he has been diagnosed with tongue cancer. He clarified that this new cancer is unrelated to a previous health issue and that doctors believe there’s a 90% chance of a full recovery.

Coulier explained that a recent health issue was completely separate from his previous cancer. He had a routine PET scan in October, and it showed something unusual. Doctors diagnosed him with P16 squamous carcinoma at the base of his tongue. He asked if it could be related to the lymphoma he’d previously had, but the doctors assured him it wasn’t.

Coulier explained that the outlook is very positive for P16 squamous carcinoma, with a 90% chance of being cured. He emphasized that early detection was key to saving his life, both when he was first diagnosed and again the second time. He urged everyone to stay on top of their health with regular check-ups, including colonoscopies, breast exams, and prostate exams, because those screenings can be life-saving.

The American Cancer Society explains that P16 is a protein which can indicate the presence of the human papillomavirus (HPV). According to his doctors, actor Jim Coulier’s tongue cancer may have developed from an HPV infection he had up to 30 years prior. While many people carry HPV, in Coulier’s case, the virus became active and led to cancer.

Coulier Beat Cancer Earlier this Year

Dave Coulier, known for his role in Full House, has been diagnosed with and is now in remission from a type of blood cancer. His co-star, Candace Cameron Bure, shared the wonderful news on Instagram, posting a photo of them together and celebrating his recovery with a message asking fans to send him love and support.

Before news of his remission became public, actor Dave Coulier discussed his cancer battle in an interview with Parade. He explained that he completed his sixth chemotherapy treatment in February 2025, and while he was pleased with the positive effects, the treatment itself was difficult.

Coulier explained that his condition worsened with each treatment. He began experiencing new symptoms like nerve pain, nausea, and dizziness. He also described a feeling of mental fogginess, often called ‘chemo brain,’ and found it increasingly difficult to stay active.

Dave Coulier is receiving 35 rounds of radiation treatment for tongue cancer, and his treatment is expected to finish on December 31, 2025.

Full House is streaming on Hulu.
