FX and Hulu had a strong year in 2025 thanks to popular shows like Alien: Earth, English Teacher, and The Lowdown starring Ethan Hawke. The Lowdown was a particular hit with critics and audiences, and its first season of eight episodes left viewers eager for more. Now, FX has confirmed a second season will continue the story of Hawke’s character, Lee Raybon, proving the show was a success. Production on Season 2 is already underway, suggesting new episodes will arrive relatively soon.
News about Season 2 of The Lowdown arrived just a couple of months after the first season finished streaming on Hulu. The quick renewal isn’t surprising, considering the Ethan Hawke-led series received a lot of critical praise last year. The Lowdown was created by Sterlin Harjo, also known as the co-creator of the popular FX show Reservation Dogs, which concluded in 2023. Hawke appeared in a supporting role during the final season of Reservation Dogs, a collaboration that likely led to him starring in Harjo’s new series.
Season 1 of The Lowdown has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 98% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 55 critic reviews. Critics particularly praise the show’s strong writing and talented cast, led by Ethan Hawke. The series, which also stars Keith David, Tim Blake Nelson, and many others, uses the setting of Tulsa, Oklahoma, effectively to create a captivating mystery.
‘The Lowdown’ is a Series That Could Last More Than Two Seasons

FX
According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming for Season 2 of The Lowdown will begin in Tulsa this spring. So far, only actor Ethan Hawke is confirmed to return. FX is known for releasing new seasons of its shows relatively quickly – The Bear is a good example. If production stays on schedule, The Lowdown could release its new season within a year of the last one, keeping viewers engaged and preventing a long wait between seasons.

The first season of The Lowdown centered around Raybon’s investigation of Donald Washberg, a candidate for governor. However, the new season will feature a different set of characters and cases. Creator Sterlin Harjo has mentioned the show is designed to be long-running, much like the classic series The Rockford Files, which presented a new mystery each week. With Harjo’s skills and Ethan Hawke’s captivating presence, The Lowdown has the potential to become another successful and enduring series for FX and Hulu, continuing as long as viewers remain engaged.
