Skybound, Image Comics, and Hasbro are teaming up to revisit a popular comic book story, but this time the focus will be on the villain Cobra.
Skybound has shared a preview of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Sssilent Missions — Crimson Guard #1, a new standalone story coming this month. Written and illustrated by Gabriel Hardman (known for Green Lantern: Earth One), the issue will be available on April 8th. It continues the popular ‘Silent’ format, first seen in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #21, offering an action-packed story told entirely without dialogue.
G.I. Joe Returns For Second Year of Silent Missions

This April, Skybound Entertainment is launching a new series of wordless comic books, similar to their popular ‘Silent’ format. However, this time the spotlight is on Cobra and its most dangerous operatives, delivering tense, action-packed stories told entirely through visuals. Skybound has announced a talented group of artists working on the series, with Crimson Guard being the second of five planned ‘Silent Missions.’ Each issue will be released on Wednesdays throughout April.
Okay, so I’m hyped for this new G.I. Joe comic! Apparently, Gabriel Hardman’s writing this issue where we get to see the latest Crimson Guard recruits finish their training. Their final exam? Protecting Cobra Commander from a full-on attack by G.I. Joe! Seriously, the stakes are super high – the description says failure isn’t an option. Sounds like a crazy ride!
This issue features interior artwork, the story, and the main cover by Hardman. Several alternate covers are also available, including one open to all orders by Jorge Fornes, the artist behind Rorschach. There’s also a special black and white version of Hardman’s cover for every ten copies ordered, and a continuing series of foil covers by Fornes – one in every twenty-five copies – that together spell out ‘COBRA’.
Joining the upcoming Silent Mission one-shots are creators like Joelle Jones and Declan Shalvey, Pat Olliffe and Tom DeFalco, Howard Porter, and Jorge Fornés. Even more artists and writers are expected to be announced before the one-shots are released throughout April.
Skybound Brings Back Historic G.I. Joe Kickstarter Campaign
Fans of G.I. Joe have more to be excited about than just the return of Silent Missions Month! Skybound will soon release G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Sets 1 & 2. These sets will collect the classic G.I. Joe comic series—issues #1 through #300 and beyond—in a definitive eight-volume hardcover collection, available starting March 24th.
Fans can now join Kickstarter’s email list to get the latest information about the upcoming campaign. As a special bonus, those who sign up and later pledge to receive a physical copy of the book will receive a Kickstarter-exclusive variant cover of G.I. Joe #244.
The first issue of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Sssilent Missions — Crimson Guard, published by Skybound, will be available for purchase on April 8, 2026.
