Marvel has unveiled Galactus’ intentions in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, which could pose a significant challenge for the main team as they make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yorkshire actor Ralph Ineson was added to the cast of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” back in May 2024, where he will bring Marvel Comics’ cosmic entity Galactus into live-action for the first time. This marks a real live-action debut for the character, following the distorted portrayal of Galactus in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer“. Ineson’s version of Galactus will be more terrifying, as he intends to launch a personal assault against the Fantastic Four.
In a recently unveiled TV promo before the launch of The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, 2025, the Fantastic Four disclose Galactus’ conditions for Earth’s protection during a press briefing (as per Reddit reports). The team admit they failed to repel Galactus’ assault and are uncertain about Earth’s safety due to Galactus requesting an excessive price. It appears that Galactus may not attack Earth provided the Fantastic Four surrender Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s child, Franklin Richards, who is anticipated to make his appearance in the Phase 6 film relatively early on.
In the Marvel Universe, Galactus journeys through the cosmos accompanied by his Heralds, among them the Silver Surfer, in pursuit of planets suitable for his consumption to maintain his energy levels. The upcoming Marvel Studios film, The Fantastic Four: Four Steps, offers a more impactful and individualized reason for Galactus’ presence on a 1960s-inspired Earth, as he seeks out Franklin Richards. Given that the characters portrayed by Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby are new MCU heroes, they will likely be hesitant to surrender their son, despite sacrificing him potentially being the only means to halt Galactus’ destructive path.
In Marvel Comics, Franklin Richards was born as a mutant with extraordinary powers that allow him to manipulate reality and create pocket universes. Galactus, a cosmic entity, desires Franklin in the comic “First Steps” because his son’s powers could generate an endless supply of worlds for Galactus to consume. The trailers for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hint that Galactus will invade Earth, causing massive destruction, indicating that the Fantastic Four won’t surrender Franklin without a fight. This persistent struggle might be why the Fantastic Four are now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Earth-616.
If the Fantastic Four’s persistent pursuit of Franklin Richards results in Galactus destroying their world, they might flee to another universe out of regret and embarrassment. This scenario accounts for their emergence in Earth-616 during the 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, as there’s a chance they could bring Galactus along, given his relentless pursuit of Franklin. Since young Richards offers Galactus an endless food source to maintain himself indefinitely, it’s likely that the planet-eater won’t abandon his quest for Franklin so readily.
