Next month, a new game will launch on the PlayStation Store for PS4. While it won’t be available on PS5 directly, players with a PS5 can still enjoy it thanks to backward compatibility. Currently, the only modern console where you can play this game is the Nintendo Switch – it’s never been released on PlayStation before, making this launch particularly exciting.
The classic game *Steel Empire* is getting a new release on PlayStation 4, called *The Legend of Steel Empire*. ININ Games will launch it on the PlayStation Store on October 9th. While the exact price for PlayStation 4 and 5 players hasn’t been announced, it’s likely to be around $24.99, similar to the price on the Nintendo eShop.
What Is Steel Empire?
Originally released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis, *Steel Empire* has been available on various platforms over the years. After its debut, it came to the Game Boy Advance in 2004, the Nintendo 3DS in 2014, and PC in 2018. It then arrived on Nintendo Switch in July, and is now set to be released on PS4.
This release is based on the PC version, which was originally created from the 3DS remake. That 3DS version, in turn, was a reimagining of the classic games from the Sega and Game Boy Advance systems.
If you’re new to the game, it’s a classic steampunk shooter where you fly and battle an evil empire attempting to take over the world. It’s designed in the style of classic side-scrolling shoot ’em ups.
Although *Steel Empire* wasn’t a huge hit when it first came out on Sega Genesis and Game Boy Advance, it keeps reappearing on new platforms – from the 3DS and PC to now the Nintendo Switch and PS4. For players who remember this style of game, it’s a fun, nostalgic trip back to a classic era of gaming.
It might seem strange that the PlayStation 4 is still getting new games so long after its release, especially now that the PS5 has been out for five years. However, it’s actually fairly common. Although Sony is reportedly planning to stop supporting the PS4, new titles are still being released for it. In fact, rumors suggest that a major game planned for 2026 will also be available on the PS4.
