Here’s an update as of January 8th, 2026, at 5pm: Following the vote count, Push Square is pleased to announce that Terminator 2D: No Fate is our Game of the Month for December 2025!
It’s great to see so many of you enjoyed this throwback! It combines classic shooting action with a clear love for the Terminator franchise.
We had over 600 votes in our December Game of the Month poll! Interestingly, while Terminator 2D ultimately won, it was actually behind Marvel Cosmic Invasion for most of the voting period.
Skynet wasn’t finished, though. It made a huge comeback, ultimately becoming much more successful than its rival – a truly impressive turnaround!
These were the top five games of December 2025, according to our readers:
- Terminator 2D: No Fate – 178 votes (30%)
- Marvel Cosmic Invasion – 130 votes (22%)
- Octopath Traveler 0 – 97 votes (16%)
- Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut – 65 votes (11%)
- Skate Story – 60 votes (10%)
We’ve mentioned it before, but our Game of the Month awards are a great way to highlight fantastic games that might otherwise be overlooked. A perfect example is Terminator 2D – it’s a really good game that wouldn’t typically be in the running for Game of the Year awards.
Since the game came out when there weren’t many other big releases, people decided to try it – and clearly enjoyed it, as they voted for it in our poll.
We’ll always make time for classic games that are both fun to play and bring back good memories – and Terminator 2D definitely fits the bill. It’s a fantastic retro game!
We’re sending our congratulations to Skynet and its robots, but we really hope this award encourages them to reconsider their plans for wiping out humankind.
We’ve finished our coverage for the 2025 Game of the Year awards, but there’s still one last thing to do before we fully shift our focus to 2026.
We’re talking about our Game of the Month selection. While the discussion around Game of the Year dominated December, these newer releases still deserve attention.
And so here we are, ready to determine our official Game of the Month for December 2025.
December isn’t usually a great month for brand new, highly anticipated games. This is because most major game companies release their biggest titles in October or November. They do this to give themselves more time for marketing and promotion before the holiday season.
December 2025 didn’t feature many blockbuster game releases, which actually gave smaller, independent games an opportunity to stand out.
Honestly, between trying to catch up on all the games I already own, I was really enjoying games like Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Skate Story, and Terminator 2D: No Fate. They totally grabbed my attention!
Recently, several exciting games were released: Octopath Traveler 0 offered a fresh take on Square Enix’s role-playing games, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 became available on PlayStation 5, and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut let players revisit a beloved story with Kiryu.
Before we move on to the main vote, let’s quickly remember the Games of the Month from 2025.
- January: Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
- February: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- March: Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- April: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- May: DOOM: The Dark Ages
- June: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- July: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
- August: Metal Gear Solid Delta
- September: Silent Hill F
- October: Ghost of Yotei
- November: Dispatch
Now it’s your turn! Help us choose our Game of the Month for December 2025 by voting in our poll. Then, tell us why you made your choice in the comments!
Voting closes on Thursday the 8th January 2026, at 00:00 BST.
