In addition to our overall Game of the Year list and the team’s favorite games, we’re highlighting the best PS5 games of 2025 in specific categories. Today, we’re announcing our pick for the best action game on PS5 in 2025.
Bronze Trophy: Elden Ring Nightreign
It’s incredibly difficult to capture the depth of Elden Ring’s diverse combat in a fast-paced multiplayer game, but Elden Ring Nightreign surprisingly succeeds.
Although it’s obvious FromSoftware is maximizing the potential of its open-world RPG, Nightreign manages to stand out with its unique characters and redesigned boss battles.
The game’s fast pace is really challenging, particularly after you get used to how quickly things move at first.
Ultimately, it’s difficult to beat the impressive, large-scale action that Japanese developers are known for, and Nightreign delivers that in abundance.

Silver Trophy: Ghost of Yotei
As a big fan of Ghost of Tsushima’s combat, I was really excited to see what Ghost of Yotei would do, and it definitely delivers! Instead of just different sword stances, they’ve given Jin a ton of new weapons to play with. It feels like a smart and really cool improvement to the already awesome action.
While it might not be as complex as other fighting games, Sucker Punch’s samurai combat is smooth, visually impressive, and really fun. Jin’s sword fights are incredibly satisfying to master, and throwing weapons at enemies is always a blast.
What really makes Yotei special are its boss battles. The developers learned from the success of the one-on-one duels in Tsushima and greatly improved upon them in this new game.

Gold Trophy: Ninja Gaiden 4
Okay, so Ninja Gaiden 4 isn’t perfect – the story and levels aren’t its strongest points. But honestly, who cares when the combat is just unbelievably amazing? It’s seriously that good, and it makes up for a lot!
This game series has always been known for its intense difficulty and violent animations, and this new release continues that tradition. It’s one of the bloodiest games available on PS5, and that’s a good thing!
There’s a special feeling when you’re completely absorbed in a great Ninja Gaiden game. It’s fantastic to see this fast-paced, challenging action back after all this time, and still so well done.

Platinum Trophy: Monster Hunter Wilds
When Monster Hunter is at its best, it’s unbeatable, and Monster Hunter Wilds delivers exactly that. Capcom’s newest game features some incredibly impressive and exciting battles.
This series has always been fundamentally about becoming skilled with your weapons and defeating the creatures you encounter. The first game, Wilds, was intentionally made a bit simpler when it came out, as the developers didn’t want a difficult story to discourage new players.
After four big updates, The Wilds has become the ultimate challenge for players who want to prove their monster-hunting abilities.
This is easily one of the most satisfying games on the PS5. The feeling of overcoming a previously unbeatable enemy is incredible.
