Game of the Year: Best PS5 Story Game of 2025

In addition to our Game of the Year top 10 and the Push Square team’s favorite games, we’re highlighting the best PS5 games of 2025 in specific categories. Today, we’re focusing on the best story-driven game on PS5 from 2025.

Bronze Trophy: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

With the Uncharted series on hold, Indiana Jones arrived as a thrilling adventure game similar to Nathan Drake’s escapades. Originally released on Xbox Series X|S and PC, it quickly came to PS5, offering players a chance to explore vast, beautiful environments and solve puzzles using a trusty whip.

Okay, so I just finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and wow, it’s awesome to have Indy back in gaming! The story is super fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is perfect. I was running around from Egypt to the Vatican, having a total blast. It’s not going to win any awards for being the most complex narrative ever, but if you just want a really good time and some pure adventure, this is it. MachineGames really nailed it!

Silver Trophy: Dispatch

Okay, so I thought those episodic game releases were a thing of the past, but Dispatch is bringing them back! It’s like watching a TV show where you get to make all the decisions. You play as the bad guys, but they’re trying to become heroes by helping people in a weird version of Los Angeles. It’s pretty cool!

What makes Dispatch special isn’t the gameplay itself, but the moments in between – the interactions, romances, and conflicts between its colorful cast of villains and supporting characters. Your choices genuinely impact the story, making the narrative the core of the game. Think of it like a TV show – playing one ‘episode’ a day – and Dispatch will deliver a hilarious and heartwarming experience.

Gold Trophy: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Hideo Kojima, a master storyteller, is back with a sequel to his unique 2019 game, and it’s a significant improvement. Death Stranding 2 refines the original’s delivery-focused gameplay and presents a more accessible story, all without sacrificing the intricate details and unusual atmosphere fans loved.

The game features a compelling cast, brought to life with realistic graphics and excellent voice acting. Expect plenty of surprising twists and incredibly detailed, cinematic cutscenes. Death Stranding 2 isn’t just a game; it’s an immersive experience, and its story is at the heart of that. It’s a title that will likely be remembered for a long time.

Platinum Trophy: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Even before its release, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” was a strong contender for recognition due to its intriguing concept. The story follows a team of volunteers battling to defeat the Paintress, who triggers the annual Gommage – a terrifying event where people the same age as her subjects simply vanish.

Honestly, the impressive setup is only a small part of what Sandfall Interactive has created – there’s so much more to discover! As a fan, I’m really excited to dive deeper and see everything they’ve built.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes you on a captivating and emotional adventure, filled with memorable characters who make every moment shine. It’s not just the main story that’s compelling—the small details, cutscenes, and conversations all come together to create a truly exceptional game. If you value a good story in video games, this is a must-play.
