Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, has suggested she probably won’t appear in another fantasy series, especially after the show’s divisive finale.
The actress starred as Daenerys Targaryen on the popular HBO show from 2011 to 2019. The way her character changed into the ‘Mad Queen’ during the final episodes caused a lot of disagreement among viewers.
In a recent interview with The New York Times about her new Peacock spy series, ‘Ponies,’ she stated that fans shouldn’t expect to see her with dragons again, saying it’s ‘highly unlikely’ she’ll ever appear alongside one, even on screen.
Clarke had previously shared with Entertainment Weekly that she found the show’s ending difficult to accept.
Clarke expressed extreme shock and disbelief regarding her character’s storyline. She stated, “I was completely blindsided – it came completely out of the blue! I honestly didn’t see it coming at all.”
I was so upset, I started crying and immediately went for a long walk. I left the house with just my keys and phone, and when I returned five hours later, my feet were covered in blisters. I was left wondering how I would cope with everything.

She explained that after reading the scripts, she called her mother, feeling very upset. She didn’t want to reveal any plot details, but she needed her mom to calm her down because the content had deeply disturbed her.
I started asking my mom and brother some really strange questions. They were confused and kept asking me why I was asking, like when I asked if they thought Daenerys was a good person, or why I even cared what anyone thought of her. They even asked if I was feeling alright.
Viewers weren’t just unhappy with how Daenerys’ story ended; many felt that several plotlines and characters were left unfinished after the show concluded.
Although the original series concluded in 2018, the fantasy world continues through several prequel shows. These include House of the Dragon, which debuted in 2022, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, coming later this month.
