As a fan, it’s fascinating to witness how Game of Thrones shaped its young cast into a tight-knit family. Yet, as they reconnect on set now as adults, these bonds can bring about an unusual awkwardness, especially for Jon Snow and the Starks who, on screen, portrayed siblings closer than a wolf pack. This proximity can make it challenging to explore other dynamics together. Nevertheless, Kit Harington and Sophie Turner, in their new film The Dreadful, accepted this challenge wholeheartedly, completing filming earlier this year, although its release date remains undisclosed. In a recent interview, Turner candidly discussed the movie’s requirement for her and Harington to share a kiss, finding it odd but still managing to make light of the situation with humor. Despite being seasoned actors, the pair can’t help but joke about the peculiar predicament they find themselves in.
In easier, more natural language:
“The Dreadful” is a gothic horror movie set during the 1600s in England, amidst the chaos of the War of the Roses. The film features Turner and Marcia Gay Harden as two women struggling to survive peacefully, with Kit Harington joining their lives as the story unfolds. At some point, their characters share a kiss, which Turner humorously described on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” last week as incredibly unpleasant. She admitted that she and Harington were both nearly sick during the first take, calling it one of her worst experiences in acting.
Turner clarified that while perusing the script’s characters, he planned to play the role. The director then inquired about his choice for the character, and Turner instantly thought of Kit. He subsequently sent the script to Kit, who responded with a message expressing enthusiasm but also a sense of unease, saying “This is going to be really awkward, Soph.” Confused, Turner later realized that the role required intimate scenes, and then understood why Kit felt uncomfortable because it was his brother he was to act alongside.
The Lone Wolf Dies, But the Pack Survives
It’s possible that Turner and Harington might be subtly incorporating some well-known humor related to fan reactions, given their history with the incest plotlines in the popular series “Game of Thrones,” particularly involving Jon Snow, played by Harington. However, since they’ve successfully moved on to other notable roles post-“Game of Thrones,” we hope this doesn’t take away from the focus of their upcoming film, “The Dreadful.” With their dark and brooding appearances, Turner and Harington seem well-suited for a gothic horror genre.
At present, Turner is actively marketing her latest film titled “Trust“, which will be in theatres starting this weekend. This suspenseful movie finds Turner portraying a young actress seeking refuge in a remote cabin amidst a scandal, but her safe haven gets compromised. Given that she had to act under truly distressing circumstances, such as real rats and cockroaches, it’s striking how the kiss shared with Harington is still considered “disgusting” by her own account. The release date for “Trust” is Friday, August 22nd. As of now, there are no updates on when “The Dreadful” will make its debut.
