Although it’s unclear exactly how the recent Game Pass price increase has affected Xbox, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer shared some good news: subscribers are now spending 45% more time gaming on the cloud, according to a recent post on LinkedIn.
Following the announcement of cloud gaming availability in India, as well as server improvements in Brazil and Argentina, Xbox head Phil Spencer shared some positive results. He noted a significant increase in engagement, with Game Pass cloud gaming hours up 45% compared to last year. Console players are also streaming more – a 45% increase on consoles and a 24% increase on other devices.
While the idea sounds positive, we don’t know how many people were actually using Xbox Cloud Gaming, or how often. However, according to Spencer, the company’s main goal is to give players more freedom – letting them play the games they want, on any device they choose, and that’s what motivates them.
Cloud gaming is now available to all Game Pass members, not just those with the Ultimate subscription. While those on the lower-tier plans (Essential and Premium) might experience slightly lower video quality and have to wait a bit longer to start playing, they can still access the service. Microsoft is also planning a free, ad-supported cloud gaming option, but details haven’t been released yet.
