Following criticism over recent price increases to Game Pass Ultimate starting October 1st, Microsoft has confirmed that current subscribers won’t be affected right away. However, this only applies to users in specific countries.
There’s been some confusion about Microsoft’s pricing, but they’ve confirmed to The Verge that customers in Germany, South Korea, Ireland, Poland, and India who have automatic renewals won’t see a price increase. If you cancel your subscription and sign up again, though, you will be charged the new price.
Kari Perez from Xbox confirmed that the recent Game Pass update isn’t changing. People who already subscribe in some countries will keep paying their current price for the time being, as required by local laws. Xbox will let subscribers know ahead of time if and when prices change in those areas.
It’s unclear exactly when the official announcement will be made, but some subscribers, particularly those in Ireland, have received emails mentioning a minimum of 60 days’ notice. If you’re already a Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll continue to pay your current price for now.
For all other regions, including the US, the price will increase by $30. We’ve also removed discounts on downloadable content and add-ons for all subscription levels, so Game Pass members will no longer get lower prices on expansions or Call of Duty Points. You can find more information about these Game Pass changes here.
