Just in time for the upcoming release of Toy Story 5, Pixar has given us a sneak peek at their new movie, Gatto. This original animated film is an adventure set in the hidden world beneath Venice, Italy, and populated by cats.
In “Gatto,” Nero, a seasoned traveler of Venice’s canals, starts to wonder if he’s made the right choices in life. He owes a debt to Rocco, the city’s powerful cat mafia boss, and finds himself stuck in a difficult situation. To find his way forward, he must form an unlikely friendship – but Venice itself might have other plans for him.
I was really surprised and pleased to hear Mark Ruffalo – yes, that Mark Ruffalo from “Poor Things” and even “The Avengers” – lending his voice to Nero, a feisty little black cat in this animated film. And the casting doesn’t stop there! Laurence Fishburne, instantly recognizable from films like “The Matrix,” is perfectly cast as Rocco, the tough, no-nonsense mob boss cat. It’s a fun pairing, and I think their voices will really bring these characters to life.
Enrico Casarosa directs “Gatto,” with Andrea Warren producing. They previously worked together on the Oscar-nominated film “Luca.”
Gatto will be released exclusively in cinemas in March 2027.
