Gavin Rossdale Details Current Co-Parenting Dynamic With Gwen Stefani

Gavin Rossdale is staying in his lane when it comes to co-parenting with Gwen Stefani.

Gavin Rossdale, singer for the band Bush, recently shared that he and his ex-wife generally maintain some space between them when raising their three children – Kingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12 – but they’ve found this approach works for their family.

Gavin described the situation as unusual, telling Fox News Digital in an interview on March 30th that it’s like a two-lane road where people don’t bother to merge, and that’s okay with him.

The 60-year-old explained that both she and Gwen, 56, are simply trying their best, and expressed her overall satisfaction with the situation, saying, “I fully support the way things are working.”

Despite ending their nearly 13-year marriage in 2015, the former couple agrees on one thing: raising their children to be kind and respectful people.

He pointed out that children who are difficult to like will likely face challenges. He explained that life is already tough, and being unkind or inconsiderate of others only makes things harder. Being aware and empathetic towards others is crucial for navigating life successfully.

Gavin, who is also a father to 37-year-old Daisy Lowe with his ex-partner Pearl Lowe, explained that he strives to lead by example. He wants to be a consistent and reliable presence in his children’s lives, offering them a stable and grounded upbringing.

Gavin has discussed his relationship with the No Doubt singer before. She later married Blake Shelton in 2021.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen so many different approaches to parenting after separation, and what really works varies. One option is to try and co-parent, really collaborating on everything. But honestly, sometimes the best approach is simply to parent – to do what’s best for your kids, focusing on your own responsibilities. That’s the route my ex and I took, and it’s worked well for us, as I shared on Adrianna Costa’s Not So Hollywood podcast last year.

Gavin explained that they and his co-parent have very different approaches to raising their children. He believes this actually benefits the kids, allowing them to carefully consider what values and traits they want to adopt from each parent and ultimately forge their own identities.

He still hopes to stay on good terms with Gwen. As he shared on the podcast Amy and T.J. in March 2024, he’d like to have a stronger connection with the mother of his children, saying, “It’d be nice if there was sort of more connection with the person who made [the kids] with me.”

But he’s also adamant on never speaking poorly about his ex.

He explained he didn’t want to comment, saying he’d always avoid speaking negatively about their mother, and felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to do so.

And even with the ups and downs he’s faced, the musician is proud of how he’s shown up as a dad.

He shared on the podcast that he’s really proud of being a consistently present father. While acknowledging he’s far from perfect and things haven’t always gone smoothly, he feels confident about his dedication and consistency as a dad.

Honestly, I was totally shocked when I heard about the divorce. It just… never seemed possible for him. He says he feels a simple shame about it, and it really struck me how he sees everything happening for a reason. He truly believes there are no accidents, that you end up exactly where you’re supposed to be, and life just… happens. It’s like he accepts that things are what they are, good or bad, and that’s just… how he deals with it. It’s almost beautiful, you know? He’s just so… philosophical about everything.
