Fans are in for many more mornings with Gayle King.
The longtime host of CBS Mornings has confirmed she’ll continue with the show, even though her current contract ends in May.
Responding to reports about her future, she stated to Variety on March 4th that claims of her leaving were untrue, playfully referencing Mark Twain’s famous quote. She confirmed her continued commitment to CBS News, where she’s worked for many years, and expressed her enthusiasm for continuing with CBS Mornings. She also indicated she’s open to new opportunities within the network and eager to keep working.
She concluded, “It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in.”
This announcement follows months of CBS denying reports that Gayle King would leave her position co-hosting the show with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson to take on a different job at the company.
According to a CBS News spokesperson, Gayle King’s contract is still in effect through May 2026, and there haven’t been any recent talks about renewing it. CBS considers her a valuable asset and plans to discuss her future with the network at a later time.
Following CBS’ statement, Gayle also emphasized where she stands with the news organization.
Speaking outside the CBS building on October 31st, the former Good Morning America special correspondent told TMZ that everyone at the network has expressed their satisfaction with his work, and he feels the same way. He stated, ‘I enjoy my job and the people I work with, so I’m not sure what else to say.’
For over 13 years, Gayle has been interviewing prominent people, like Barack Obama and her close friend, Oprah Winfrey. She believes her success as an interviewer comes from simply being naturally curious.

Gayle recalls being called ‘nosy’ and a ‘question-asker’ as a child, but she prefers to see herself as naturally curious. She explained to the Harvard Business Review that her openness and genuine interest in others are core to who she is and why she thrives in her work, adding that ‘people love to talk about themselves.’
She explained that people often end up sharing their life stories with her, even when they’ve just met. They’ll often say they can’t believe they’re opening up to someone they don’t know, but she believes it’s because she comes across as sincere when she talks to them. She clarified that she’s not trying to analyze anyone, she just creates a comfortable atmosphere for sharing.
Gayle’s adventurous spirit recently led her to an incredible experience: a trip to space! At 71 years old, she joined Jeff Bezos on his Blue Origin NS-31 mission. The crew included Katy Perry, Jeff Bezos’ wife Lauren Bezos, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn, all aboard the New Shepard rocket.

“This wasn’t a simple journey,” Gayle King said on CBS Mornings on April 14th, right after the plane landed. “It was a real, scary flight.”
Because Gayle was very afraid of flying, taking on this important assignment was a huge achievement for the journalist.
“I’m so proud of me right now,” she exclaimed. “I still can’t believe it.”
