Even though Gears of War: E-Day wasn’t shown at The Game Awards or any major events since, development is still moving forward. The Coalition studio says they plan to reveal more about the game in 2026, according to a recent post on Xbox Wire.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Gears of War series, and Gears of War: E-Day is the studio’s biggest project to date. Built entirely from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, the game aims to deliver the familiar Gears experience fans enjoy, but with completely updated gameplay.
We’re going back to where it all began with Marcus and Dom facing the Locust for the very first time. It’s the perfect starting point for anyone new to the Gears world, and we’re excited to reveal more details next year.
Gears of War: E-Day tells the story of the beginning of the Locust War, focusing on the day the Locust—creatures living underground on the planet Sera—first attacked humanity. Humans were already weakened by fighting over a valuable resource called Imulsion, leaving them unprepared for the invasion. While the game follows a straightforward story, it’s particularly known for emphasizing a scary and suspenseful atmosphere.
The next Xbox Developer_Direct is scheduled for January 2026, and we might get some exciting updates there. So far, Playground Games has confirmed they’ll be at the show. We’re almost certain to see news about Forza Horizon 6, but it’s unclear if they’ll also reveal anything about Fable.
