The cryptocurrency platform Gemini made history by arranging 1,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to create the symbol for Bitcoin in the sky, setting a new record for the largest aerial demonstration of a currency symbol as recognized by Guinness World Records.
On March 13, the celebration took place in Austin, Texas, for the United States’ Strategic Bitcoin Reserve project.
At Gemini’s drone display, scenes of a rocket lift-off and the moon landing were shown alongside other images. In the midst of this spectacle, the Bitcoin symbol appeared, accompanied by the phrase “Go beyond what money can’t reach.” The organization stated:
“In celebration of the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, we’re hosting a Guinness World Record breaking drone show. The show explores the future of money and features the iconic Bitcoin “₿” as the largest currency symbol in the sky.”
After the impressive drone exhibition, Gemini was awarded a certification for “Setting the record for the largest aerial representation of a currency symbol using multirotor/drones.
The Bitcoin logo origin story
For more than sixteen years since Bitcoin was introduced, its logo has experienced multiple changes based on community suggestions. The original Bitcoin logo, designed by Satoshi Nakamoto, depicted a golden coin with the letters “BC” engraved within it, as illustrated here:

However, Nakamoto introduced a new logo on Feb. 24, 2010, which replaced the “BC” text with “₿.”
As a researcher studying the digital currency landscape, I’ve found that the distinctive logo associated with Bitcoin has been made available under copyright-free terms and has since gained broad recognition as its universally recognized emblem.
On November 1st, 2010, a member of the Bitcoin community named bitboy unveiled a fresh version of the Bitcoin logo. This design was enthusiastically endorsed by early Bitcoin users. (Note: bitboy is not associated with YouTuber BitBoy Crypto)
Consequently, Bitboy’s design has been adopted as the standard Bitcoin logo and is still in use today.
The revised emblem swapped out the golden backdrop for a vibrant orange hue, and it showcased the “₿” symbol associated with Nakamoto rotated clockwise by 14%.
