Gen V season 2 pays tribute to Chance Perdomo – and addresses his death in a devastating but meaningful way

Season 2 of Gen V honors the memory of Chance Perdomo, who sadly passed away last year, and continues to feature him as an important part of the storyline.

Last March, 27-year-old Perdomo tragically died in a motorcycle accident. Instead of finding a new actor to play his character, Andre, the writers of Gen V season 2 changed the storyline to accommodate his passing.

The second season of Gen V starts with a dedication to Chance Perdomo, revealed in the first episode to be honoring his character Andre, who died between seasons.

At the end of Season 1, Marie, along with her friends like Andre, found themselves locked up in the Elmira Adult Rehabilitation Center.

In the first episode of season 2, we learn that Marie managed to escape, though she unfortunately had to leave her friends. Inspired by Marie’s success, Andre tried to escape as well, but his attempt ended tragically.

Jordan, also known as London Thor, told Marie that after she escaped, their captor believed she proved an escape was possible. He discovered a metal pipe that could be used as an exit, but refused to try escaping alone. He waited for everyone to have a chance to escape with him. However, when he finally tried to use the pipe, someone had blocked it off with bricks, and he couldn’t open it.

The place was heavily guarded with people, dogs, and bright lights. Instead of trying to sneak past them, he attempted to force open a massive steel door, but it wouldn’t budge. He simply wasn’t strong enough. I pleaded with him to stop, but he was incredibly stubborn and kept straining against the door until he collapsed and died.

The show really feels the loss of Perdomo in season 2, and the writers handle it well by making his character’s fate a driving force for the heroes, who spend the season seeking justice for Andre.

I really appreciated getting to know Andre’s dad, Polarity, played by Sean Patrick Thomas. The movie does a great job of showing how deeply he’s affected by losing his son, and it’s genuinely heartbreaking to watch. It felt so real and added a lot of emotional weight to the story.

It’s been incredibly emotional hearing the cast talk about returning to film season two of Gen V after the loss of Shelley. I was really struck by what Thomas said – he described it as a strange combination of deep sadness and the thrill of stepping into something new and unpredictable. It just feels like they’re navigating something so difficult with such honesty.

Before that, I’d filmed almost all of my scenes with Chance Perdomo, so it was hard to imagine coming to work and not seeing him. I was truly shocked and saddened by the news, and it took a while to process.

It was a real privilege to help share Andre’s story and see how the writers developed it. I especially wanted to make sure Chance remained a strong presence in the show.
