General Hospital Finds Success on Hulu

After airing on television for over 60 years, General Hospital – the longest-running American soap opera – is now finding a new audience on Hulu. The show, which began in 1963, has produced an impressive 15,000 episodes over 63 seasons.

According to Flix Patrol, General Hospital is now the second most popular show on Hulu. Currently, it’s just behind All’s Fair, which holds the top spot. On the list of TV shows specifically, General Hospital is in second place.

Premiering on ABC in 1963, General Hospital was created by Frank and Doris Hursley and quickly became a popular soap opera. The show is mainly set in the fictional General Hospital in Port Charles, New York, and focuses on the relationships and dramatic events in the lives of its characters.

For over sixty years, General Hospital has been a consistent award winner, receiving hundreds of nominations and earning more than a hundred wins. It’s also become one of the longest-running TV shows ever, currently totaling an incredible 15,000 episodes.

After more than 15,000 episodes, General Hospital has featured many iconic characters and stories. Despite its long run, it’s only led to two spinoff series. The first, The Young Marrieds, aired for two years and had 380 episodes, starting in 1964. The second, General Hospital: Night Shift, debuted in 2007 but was short-lived, lasting only 27 episodes across two seasons before being canceled.

One of the biggest recent changes at General Hospital involves Jon Lindstrom, who left the show this summer after a nine-month return. Lindstrom first appeared as Lucky Spencer in 1993 and remained a cast member until 1999. He later rejoined the series from 2009 to 2011 and again in 2015, before taking a nine-year break.

When I left, it wasn’t a quick decision. Both I and the show really wanted to find a way for my character to stay on for a longer time. I was hoping to continue, but it was always possible I’d leave. I was essentially testing whether I could balance the show with my family life, and ultimately it didn’t work out.

I really hoped I could manage both my family and work commitments, and I tried to make the best decisions I could, trusting my instincts. We did everything we could to make it work, but ultimately, it wasn’t sustainable.

Two Fan-Favourite General Hospital Stars Finally Got a Long-Overdue Reunion

Recently, two former stars of General Hospital had a heartwarming reunion. Natalia Livingston, who played Emily Quartermaine from 2003 to 2014, and Greg Vaughan, known as Lucky Spencer from 2003 to 2009, shared a dinner together before the holidays, as shown in a recent Instagram post.

Vaughan recently visited Atlanta and enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal with a wonderful family from Georgia. He shared on social media how thankful he was for the good food, fun conversations, stories, and even a talent show!

“You really brightened our day!” Livingston replied. “Coco and Hux expressed it perfectly on their boards: ‘Mr. Greg is the best! Loving, caring, kind, silly, helpful.’ We want you to feel at home here! We love having you and look forward to seeing you again soon!”

General Hospital is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
