George Clooney’s Sister, Adelia “Ada” Zeidler, Dead at 65

George Clooney is mourning the loss of one of his closest confidants.

The Oscar-winning actor’s sister, Adelia “Ada” Zeidler, passed away on December 19th after a fight with cancer, he told People magazine. She was 65 years old.

George, 64, shared that his sister, Ada, was his hero. In a statement released on December 20th, he said she fought cancer with incredible bravery and a good sense of humor, adding that he’s never known anyone as courageous as her.

The Ocean’s Eleven actor also shared how much Ada meant to him and his wife, Amal Clooney, saying they would both miss her very much.

Ada passed away peacefully at her home in Edgewood, Kentucky, surrounded by her family and friends, according to her obituary. A funeral mass will be held on December 22nd.

Can you believe it? And get this – she wasn’t just creative, she was brilliant! She was a National Merit Scholar in high school! Seriously, a total overachiever and artist – it’s just… perfect.

Ada was born in Los Angeles on May 2, 1960, but lived in Augusta, Kentucky. She was involved in her community, enjoying a book club and participating in the Augusta Art Guild. She was also honored to be the grand marshal of the town’s White Christmas Parade, according to her obituary.

Ada generally preferred to stay private, but she remained close to George throughout their lives. She once described their unusual way of staying in touch, explaining that she intentionally didn’t memorize his phone number to prevent others from contacting him through it.

She explained to The Columbus Dispatch in November 2012 that she preferred not to store his number on her phone in case she lost it. While he sometimes calls, she finds email a more practical way to stay in touch.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Zeidler, in 2004. She is survived by her parents, Nick and Nina Clooney, and her children, Nick Zeidler and Allison Zeidler Herolaga.
