Gerard Butler And Jason Statham Have Competing Action Movies This Month, And I’m Wondering Who’ll Come Out On Top

With the new year here, I’m looking ahead to the 2026 movie lineup. While I still want to catch a few films that were originally scheduled for 2025, I’m really excited about two upcoming action movies I’ve been anticipating for a while. I’m especially hyped for Greenland 2: Migration starring Gerard Butler and Jason Statham’s Shelter – my excitement is starting to feel a little over the top!

I love watching movies, especially when it’s cold outside, so I’ll definitely be checking out the new films starring these two action heroes, who are currently dominating the January box office. I’m curious to see which one will be more successful – will it be Butler’s new disaster movie, or Statham’s latest thriller? Let’s discuss!

Gerard Butler Has Greenland 2: Migration Opening In Early January

Gerard Butler returns as John Garrity in Greenland 2: Migration, the follow-up to the 2020 hit movie Greenland. The story picks up five years later, with Garrity and his family – Allison (Morena Baccarin) and Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis) – trying to build a new life in Europe after finding temporary safety in a Greenland bunker.

January isn’t usually a strong month for movie ticket sales, but Gerard Butler has consistently found success during this time. Films like Den of Thieves (and its follow-up) and Plane have all performed well, and Greenland 2 looks poised to do the same. Despite some competition when it’s released, I expect it to be a hit.

Jason Statham Has Shelter Coming Out To Close The Month

Jason Statham returns to action on January 30th with the film Shelter, which could launch a new series of films for him. He plays a retired hitman who must protect a young girl from his former, dangerous organization. It looks like a thrilling and action-filled movie, and I’m planning to see it in theaters this month.

Jason Statham started the year strong, with his 2024 action movie, The Beekeeper, performing very well when it was released. It’s uncertain if his new film, Shelter, will be as successful, but I believe audiences will likely turn out for another action-packed movie this January.

No matter which film does better this month, Ric Roman Waugh – the director of both Greenland 2: Migration and Shelter – is already a winner. And people like me, who love these kinds of movies, will definitely be enjoying ourselves! It’s going to be a fun ride, no matter what.
