Gerry Duggan Teases a Completely Unexpected Godzilla: Infinity Roar in Exclusive New First Look

As a huge film fan, I thought the recent Godzilla vs. the Avengers was intense, but it looks like that was just the beginning! While Earth survived, the rest of the universe is in trouble. The ending of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe left us with Godzilla banished to space, and now he’s teamed up with Knull – a seriously scary villain. Honestly, things are about to get wild, and I’m a little worried about what’s next!

Get ready for a monster mashup! In February, the new comic series Godzilla: Infinity Roar will hit stores, pitting Godzilla against the King in Black and unleashing a terrifying galactic threat. ComicBook has a first look at the first issue and spoke with writer Gerry Duggan about the series. Duggan hints that the story will take an unexpected turn, so readers should prepare for a surprising ending.

The Heroes Tried Their Ethical Best, But This Story is Set to Surprise

You’ve written Godzilla stories before, including ‘Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe.’ What sets ‘Godzilla: Infinity Roar’ apart from those previous experiences?

Gerry Duggan explains that the Marvel heroes’ attempt to solve the problem the right way actually backfired. By sending Godzilla into space, they created an opportunity for a villain like Knull to exploit the situation. He also hints that the upcoming events will take an unexpected turn, defying audience expectations.

I was surprised to see Knull included in this story. What do you think is the most unexpected aspect of this team-up?

Godzilla is the embodiment of pure anger, and this isn’t a friendly partnership. Godzilla simply wants to be left alone to sleep, and Knull also values peace and hates all living things. When a major problem landed in their corner of the universe, it created an opportunity for Knull to leave his lasting impact. He has a surprisingly straightforward plan that, on its own, would have been impossible to pull off.

Get ready to see Godzilla like never before! The new installment promises a truly frightening and impressive transformation. What aspect of ‘Godzilla: Infinity Roar’ caught you off guard?

I can’t believe how much creative freedom I’m being given at both Marvel and Toho in Tokyo. They’re really letting Javier Garron and Ig Guara take the lead, and they deserve the spotlight. I’ve worked on some wild projects before, but this one is even more over-the-top than anything I did on Savage Avengers or Deadpool – and that’s saying something, considering Deadpool and Cable once killed Hitler in Laurel Canyon during my work on the latter!

And just because I have to ask: How cool is it to get to write Godzilla?

Literally the coolest. I’ve always LOVED Godzilla and I hope it shows.

Wait, Is That King Ghidorah in Godzilla: Infinity Roar #2?

The story is just beginning in Godzilla: Infinity Roar #1! Issue #2 promises even more action and some surprising team-ups. We also have a sneak peek at the covers for Godzilla: Infinity Roar #2, and you’re not mistaken – that is King Ghidorah featured on the main cover art by Ken Lashley!

GALACTUS’ HUNGER VS. GODZILLA’S APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION!

With Knull’s terrifying influence spreading throughout the universe, heroes are fighting back against the combined threat of the King in Black and Godzilla. The Fantastic Four team up with a former foe, while Godzilla’s emergence stirs up an ancient enemy: King Ghidorah. Their battle over Asgard promises a permanent change to the Marvel Universe.
