Get Ready: The Office Spinoff The Paper Drops Premiere Date and Teaser!

Breaking news: The release date for The Paper, the much-anticipated spinoff of The Office, has been officially set! On Thursday, Peacock revealed that viewers can expect to see the new workplace mockumentary on September 4th. The show comes to us from the pen of Greg Daniels (creator of The Office and King of the Hill) and Michael Koman (writer for Saturday Night Live and Nathan For You). In this exciting new series, the documentary team who made Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch so memorable in The Office will shift their focus to a struggling Midwestern newspaper and its determined publisher as they attempt a comeback. This fresh take on the mockumentary genre is sure to delight fans of the original series!

The series titled “The Paper” debuts with four initial episodes on September 4, which coincides with the release date of the Toledo Truth Teller as depicted in the image below. Additionally, Peacock revealed that two additional episodes from the first season will be aired weekly, every Thursday, up until September 25.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that Domhnall Gleeson, known for his role in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ takes the lead in our production as Ned. Sabrina Impacciatore, famously from ‘The White Lotus,’ joins us as Esmeralda, while Gbemisola Ikumelo, a familiar face from ‘A League of Their Own,’ brings Adelola to life. Lastly, we’re thrilled to have Oscar Nuñez reprise his beloved character, Oscar Martinez from ‘The Office.’

This show features Chelsea Frei, known for “Poker Face,” Melvin Gregg from “American Vandal,” Alex Edelman of “Unfrosted,” Ramona Young who stars in “Never Have I Ever,” and Tim Key, recognized for “This Time with Alan Partridge” as the main cast members.

Notable appearances include Eric Rahill from “Friendship”, Tracy Letts in “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”, Molly Ephraim known for her work in “Last Man Standing”, comedian Mo Welch, Duane Shepard Sr. recognized from “Parks and Recreation”, Nate Jackson who starred in “Young Rock”, Nancy Lenehan famous for her role in “Veep”, and Allan Havey, who portrayed Henry Bruegger, the Brussels sprouts farmer, in the “The Farm” episode of “The Office”.

Ken Kwapis, responsible for directing the initial episode of The Office in 2005, including episodes such as “Booze Cruise” and “Gay Witch Hunt,” is joining forces once more with Paul Lieberstein within the realm of The Office Universe. Lieberstein, known for his portrayal of Toby Flenderson and multi-faceted role behind the scenes as a writer, producer, and director on the show that aired for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, is also revisiting this universe.

Lieberstein is responsible for directing an episode of The Paper, joining a collection of talented directors such as Daniels, Yana Gorskaya from What We Do in the Shadows, Tazbah Chavez of Reservation Dogs, Matt Sohn from Superstore, Jennifer Celotta of Abbott Elementary, Jason Woliner who has worked on Parks and Rec, and Jeff Blitz known for his work on The Office.

Originating, penning, and overseeing production for the show The Paper are Daniels and Koman. Notably, it is also executive produced by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who were co-creators of the UK version of The Office. Additionally, producers Howard Klein and Ben Silverman from the US version of The Office are also serving as executive producers, along with Banijay Americas. The debut of The Paper is scheduled for September 4 on Peacock.
