Jason Hawes is not letting tragedy become conspiracy.
Following the unexpected death of Dan Rivera, a former colleague on Ghost Hunters and fellow paranormal investigator, who was on a nationwide tour with the Annabelle doll (a rumored haunted artifact that spawned the Conjuring movie series), he vigorously disputed speculations linking his demise to the doll being in his care.
In a July 16th Facebook post, Hawes stated, “Lately, we’ve lost an exceptional individual.” Dan Rivera was not only an Army veteran and a father of four, but also a devoted husband. What makes this situation particularly difficult is seeing posts that attribute his death to items like the Annabelle doll.
It’s true that Rivera was discovered deceased in a hotel room in Gettysburg on July 13th, after attending a viewing of the Annabelle doll as part of a tour with the New England Society of Psychic Research (NESPR). Although no unusual or suspicious activities were noted at the scene according to a police report, the proximity of this event has led to various speculations on social media.
Hawes pleaded to halt the criticisms directed towards establishments such as Ghostly Images of Gettysburg Tours and similar venues for hosting events, especially during their times of mourning. Such disrespectful comments should not be read by families who are already in pain.
Instead, Hawes critically spoke out against individuals trying to manipulate Rivera’s unfortunate demise into something darker and mysterious, as the actual cause remains undetermined by the autopsy report.
Some individuals are exploiting his demise for their own gain, which is simply appalling,” he added. “Dan was a devoted family man and a well-respected paranormal investigator who left us far too early. Instead, let’s remember Dan for the person he truly was, rather than twisting his death into a sensationalized tale to attract views or attention.
Speaking of Hawes, who graced Syfy’s Ghost Hunters series from 2004 to 2016, he expressed, “Respect the person. Disregard the nonsense.
Since his demise, those close to him have shared that they are still grappling with the shock of his untimely departure.
For more than ten years, Dan was not just an integral member of our team, but also a profoundly kind, faithful, and committed friend. His compassionate spirit and strong sense of purpose left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.” (Press release from NESPR, July 15)
Rivera’s passing wasn’t associated with the supernatural, yet numerous stars share a similar fervor for what he held dear throughout his life. Delve further to discover celebrities recounting their ghostly encounters…
In one of her conversations, Courteney Cox, famously known for her role in Friends, shared an eerie tale about a ghostly encounter she had with a delivery man and later in London.
On Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show, she recounted an instance where a delivery man warned her that her house was haunted just as she was about to receive a package. “I go, ‘Really? Why?’ He goes, ‘Because there’s someone standing behind you.’ And I thought, ‘Oh st.’”
She also mentioned another spooky experience in London, where she was jet-lagged and saw disturbing visions while trying to sleep. “I just kept seeing all these weird things… I said, ‘Mom? Dad? Auntie Em?'” After witnessing moving plants and lights, she woke up her partner, Johnny McDaid, telling him she was seeing spirits. However, he assured her that she was merely asleep.
Eventually, Courteney managed to deter the apparitions by politely asking them not to return. “I said, ‘Thanks for visiting last night. That was fun. Do not come back tonight cause I have to sleep,'” she said. “And I didn’t see them again.
Demi Lovato believes her childhood home in Texas is haunted, as she and her sister have both claimed to have conversations with unseen entities there. On a 2013 episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” she recalled an instance where she was conversing with someone her mother couldn’t see, claiming it was a little girl named Emily in a picture frame. Her younger sister had a similar experience, claiming to talk to a girl who lived in the closet.
Demonstrating further evidence of this supposed haunting, Lovato shared an account where she invited friends over and declared, “Watch, something will happen.” Skeptical at first, her friends reported strange occurrences, such as when one friend’s phone mysteriously texted “I think this place is haunted” multiple times.
If that story didn’t give you a fright, here’s another chilling detail: Demi’s uncle once witnessed a balloon floating down the stairs in their home – an unusual occurrence since balloons don’t typically float unassisted. The balloon even continued to move after turning the corner, adding to the eerie atmosphere of their haunted house.
During her role in The Conjuring as a child character, Joey King experienced an eerie real-life incident off-set. On a 2020 episode of The Howard Stern Show, she recounted the strange occurrence. During filming of scenes where the mother’s character became possessed and bruised, Joey started developing mysterious bruises on her body in unusual places such as her stomach and chest.
Initially, the makeup artists assumed that she was playing a prank by stealing their fake bruises. However, they tried to remove these marks with rubbing alcohol and oil, to which Joey responded that she was telling the truth. To confirm, she visited her doctor for blood tests.
Suddenly, she was informed of an unusual blood-thinning condition called ITP, in which most of her red platelets mysteriously drained from her body. This disorder had never affected her before or since, and none of her family members have it.
As a result, Joey had to visit the hospital twice a day while filming The Conjuring in 2013. When she returned home, her platelet levels were normal once again, and she has not experienced any symptoms of that disorder since then.
Continue taking deep breaths as you delve into the spine-chilling tale involving pop sensation, Ariana Grande. In an interview with Complex, she shared her harrowing “supernatural encounter” that occurred in Kansas City back in 2013. After spending a night in what she described as a haunted castle, Ariana revealed, “The following night we wished to visit Stull Cemetery, known as one of the seven gates to hell on Earth.”
She recounted feeling an oppressive sense of dread wash over her and her companions, accompanied by the smell of sulfur – a telltale sign of a demonic presence. A random fly in their vehicle also added to their unease, another omen of evil spirits. “I felt frightened, so we decided to leave,” she told Complex. Upon leaving, she rolled down the window and addressed the entity, saying, “We’re sorry for disturbing your peace.” She then captured a photo, which later revealed three distinct demonic faces. However, she deleted the image after her manager received an error message stating the file was 666 megabytes in size.
Ariana also recounted witnessing a massive black cloud looming beside her bed one night. “I started crying,” she added. “I was on the phone, asking for advice, and they suggested I tell it to go away. But I didn’t want to upset it, so I chose not to engage with it as I knew it thrives on fear. It moved to the front of my bed, and then I fell asleep while still on the phone. When I woke up, it was gone.
Octavia Spencer appears comfortable having a spirit in her home, as she believes it serves as a protector and keeps unwanted individuals away. On the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2021, she explained that since the house was previously owned by a man who made Westerns, he must be her protector spirit. She added that this ghost runs off undesirable visitors and makes her home welcoming for those who belong there. However, Spencer clarified that she doesn’t want other spirits joining her resident ghost, as it has boundaries and only haunts her occasionally by closing doors or turning off lights when she’s been gone for a while.
As a fervent admirer of Jennifer Aniston, hearing her recount her chilling encounter with a supposed house ghost in LA left me utterly captivated. In her own words on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she shared the hair-raising incidents that made her question the presence of an otherworldly entity.
“The dishwasher would mysteriously start up, or the coffee maker would spontaneously activate, and the stereo would blast music at full volume,” the iconic Rachel Green explained. “It was downright terrifying.”
To alleviate her fear, Jennifer consulted a spiritual expert to rid her house of the spectral inhabitant.
“I had someone visit my home,” the Morning Show star disclosed. “They brought frankincense and burned it in a small dish while they recited incantations. The moment she approached the first corner, the dish shattered.”
The supernatural activity didn’t end there. Jennifer vividly recalled an incident involving a large, thick ashtray from 1975 that suddenly cracked, prompting the specialist to ask her to step away so she could converse with the spirit.
“What did the spirit communicate?” I wondered. “He detested my roommate,” Jennifer revealed, later expressing remorse for not informing her roommate of the disturbance. “It would have been cruel to say, ‘It doesn’t like you.’ That would have been unkind.
Miley Cyrus has shared experiences about a ghost she believes inhabits her home. In an interview with 102.7KIISFM’s JoJo Wright in 2020, she recounted that a friend had given her Elvis Presley memorabilia following the death of their parent. However, this collection was destroyed when Miley’s Malibu house caught fire in 2018.
In one room of her L.A. home, Miley displayed a photo of her friend’s deceased mother. After the fire, she said that the spirit started visiting her house. It seemed as if the fire had freed the woman, and Miley removed the picture from her guest room.
Miley claimed to have smelled cigarette smoke coming from the guest room, where the photo was located. Her dogs also exhibited unusual behavior whenever Miley sensed the presence of the ghost. Just recently, she thought she saw the ghost sitting on the couch, teasing her dogs – a behavior consistent with the deceased woman’s character.
Her dogs would become agitated during these encounters, which only occurred a few times.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but urge you to dash right over and listen to Keanu Reeves share his chilling ghost story! Yes, the man who brought Neo to life, has an intriguing tale from his childhood that will give you goosebumps.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2014, he revealed a spooky incident at his family’s New York apartment when he was around seven. Keanu described seeing a mysterious jacket floating through a doorway, with no head, body or legs attached! It appeared, vanished, and left him bewildered, but not too scared.
His nanny, however, seemed quite terrified by the spectacle. As a kid, I remember feeling intrigued at first, then looking over to my nanny who was wide-eyed and gaping, and realizing that this was indeed real! It was a surreal moment for me, one that still leaves me in awe to this day.
Vanessa Hudgens, who gained fame from High School Musical, doesn’t seem to be running away from any supernatural forces. Instead, she seems to embrace her unique ability to sense the unseen. “I’ve come to terms with the fact that I see and hear things,” she said on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022. One instance that stands out in her memory involves a pull-along duck toy from when she was eight years old.
“There was one of those toys on the dining room table,” continued the actress from The Princess Switch, “and as I started walking, it began to move alongside me.”
Now, Vanessa is keen to learn more about her abilities. “I used to suppress it because it’s frightening,” she told Kelly Clarkson. “The unknown can be scary. But I recently decided, ‘No, this is a gift and something I have the capacity to do. So, I’m going to explore it.’ And I recently had my first real paranormal investigation using equipment.”
Back in 2016, actor Hugh Grant shared an unusual tale about one of his sons. It seemed that the boy had a peculiar habit – he would often gaze into a corner of his room as if there was someone else there.
As word spread, other people began noticing too. Kids visiting the house would ask, “Who’s that little boy over there?” Even relatives and nannies found themselves puzzled by this mysterious figure.
Feeling it was time to take action, Hugh decided to call a professional – a ghostbuster! The woman who arrived at his house carried sticks and, according to Hugh, they went wild in the boy’s room. She claimed the place was filled with strong spirits, causing her to feel so unwell she thought she might vomit.
Hugh found her claims dubious but played along, allowing her to burn about seven pounds of sage and bang a little drum. Afterward, she declared that all the spirits were gone.
But were they? The next morning, Hugh asked his son if he felt any better after the ghostbusting session. His son replied, “No, there was a little boy at my window.” So it looks like they might need to find a new home – one that’s not quite so haunted!
The series of incidents that happened to Brian Cox years ago in Edinburgh will send shivers down your spine. On a 2023 episode of The Jonathan Ross Show, the actor recounted his experience: “I was trying to fall asleep when I suddenly heard a rocking noise,” he said, “and my chair began moving across the room towards my bed.”
Though the chair eventually stopped moving, Brian was still unnerved by what transpired. “By then, I had pulled myself under the covers,” he continued, “because I thought, ‘This is truly terrifying.'” The Succession actor managed to fall asleep, but was jolted again the next morning. He added, “The chair was still there, and the floor was marked with scratches.
