Ghost Hunters Star Slams Annabelle Doll, Dan Rivera Death Theory

Jason Hawes is not letting tragedy become conspiracy. 

Following the unexpected death of Dan Rivera, a former colleague on Ghost Hunters and fellow paranormal investigator, who was on a nationwide tour with the Annabelle doll (a rumored haunted artifact that spawned the Conjuring movie series), he vigorously disputed speculations linking his demise to the doll being in his care.

In a July 16th Facebook post, Hawes stated, “Lately, we’ve lost an exceptional individual.” Dan Rivera was not only an Army veteran and a father of four, but also a devoted husband. What makes this situation particularly difficult is seeing posts that attribute his death to items like the Annabelle doll.

It’s true that Rivera was discovered deceased in a hotel room in Gettysburg on July 13th, after attending a viewing of the Annabelle doll as part of a tour with the New England Society of Psychic Research (NESPR). Although no unusual or suspicious activities were noted at the scene according to a police report, the proximity of this event has led to various speculations on social media.

Hawes pleaded to halt the criticisms directed towards establishments such as Ghostly Images of Gettysburg Tours and similar venues for hosting events, especially during their times of mourning. Such disrespectful comments should not be read by families who are already in pain.

Instead, Hawes critically spoke out against individuals trying to manipulate Rivera’s unfortunate demise into something darker and mysterious, as the actual cause remains undetermined by the autopsy report.

Some individuals are exploiting his demise for their own gain, which is simply appalling,” he added. “Dan was a devoted family man and a well-respected paranormal investigator who left us far too early. Instead, let’s remember Dan for the person he truly was, rather than twisting his death into a sensationalized tale to attract views or attention.

Speaking of Hawes, who graced Syfy’s Ghost Hunters series from 2004 to 2016, he expressed, “Respect the person. Disregard the nonsense.

Her younger sister had a similar experience, claiming to talk to a girl who lived in the closet.

Demonstrating further evidence of this supposed haunting, Lovato shared an account where she invited friends over and declared, “Watch, something will happen.” Skeptical at first, her friends reported strange occurrences, such as when one friend’s phone mysteriously texted “I think this place is haunted” multiple times.

During her role in The Conjuring as a child character, Joey King experienced an eerie real-life incident off-set. On a 2020 episode of The Howard Stern Show, she recounted the strange occurrence. During filming of scenes where the mother’s character became possessed and bruised, Joey started developing mysterious bruises on her body in unusual places such as her stomach and chest.

Initially, the makeup artists assumed that she was playing a prank by stealing their fake bruises. However, they tried to remove these marks with rubbing alcohol and oil, to which Joey responded that she was telling the truth. To confirm, she visited her doctor for blood tests.

Suddenly, she was informed of an unusual blood-thinning condition called ITP, in which most of her red platelets mysteriously drained from her body. This disorder had never affected her before or since, and none of her family members have it.

As a result, Joey had to visit the hospital twice a day while filming The Conjuring in 2013. When she returned home, her platelet levels were normal once again, and she has not experienced any symptoms of that disorder since then.

But I didn’t want to upset it, so I chose not to engage with it as I knew it thrives on fear. It moved to the front of my bed, and then I fell asleep while still on the phone. When I woke up, it was gone.

Octavia Spencer appears comfortable having a spirit in her home, as she believes it serves as a protector and keeps unwanted individuals away. In an interview with 102.7KIISFM’s JoJo Wright in 2020, she recounted that a friend had given her Elvis Presley memorabilia following the death of their parent.
