Following the release of *Ghost of Tsushima*, Sucker Punch Productions intends to focus all its resources on a single game at a time. In a recent interview with VideoGamesChronicle, studio head Brian Fleming confirmed the company will continue to work on one project exclusively, rather than juggling multiple titles simultaneously.
Fleming doesn’t know what the studio will work on next – it could be revisiting older games like *Sly* or creating a new *Ghost* game. However, he wants to avoid taking on too much and spreading the studio too thin.
Look, honestly, whatever we decide to work on next – whether it’s continuing the *Ghost* series or revisiting *Sly* – it really comes down to how much time and attention we can give it. We’re a team that likes to really polish things, and that means we can only focus on one project at a time. If we could magically handle four games at once, sure, we’d be pumping out remasters and tackling fan requests left and right. But we can’t – we only have the bandwidth for one thing right now.
There are still many promising ideas for the studio to pursue. As Fleming points out, Sucker Punch Productions has numerous options. However, because each project usually takes about five years to finish, the studio has to be very careful when choosing what to work on next. It’s like trying to attend multiple universities at once – a single person can only handle so much.
He explained that you really need to bring your strongest idea to the table. It’s not that there’s a lack of good options, but you only get to pursue one, and these opportunities only come around every five years. That makes the decision incredibly important – it’s like choosing your college and major all over again, but every five years.
You have a lot of great options – like Cambridge, UCLA, or even joining the Peace Corps. But you can really only focus on one of those things in the next five years, so it’s a big decision that you should think through carefully.
Fleming also mentioned the possibility of their next project being connected to one of Sucker Punch Productions’ older games, like *Sly* or *InFamous*, especially with the studio’s 30th anniversary approaching. However, he explained that many current employees weren’t around when the company first started, making it a tougher decision to revisit those older franchises.
After 30 years, we’re seeing the children of our original employees joining the team, and some of our current staff weren’t even alive when the studio began. Over the years, with shifts from projects like *Sly*, *InFamous*, and *Ghost*, these changes mean we’re not only moving away from specific games like *Tsushima* and the actors involved, but also from long-term employees—some who have been with us for a decade—who may not be interested in working on games set in historical periods.
